So, I’ve been keeping track of the 2016-17 football league championship, and man, what a wild ride it’s been! I mean, we’re talking about the first season of the EFL Championship under this new name.
I started following this whole thing right from the get-go, which kicked off on August 6, 2016. Can you believe it? It’s the 118th season overall! Time flies when you’re having fun, right?
Diving into the thick of it, I meticulously recorded every match result I could get my hands on. Websites, newspapers, you name it – I was on it like a hawk. The dedication, I know! But hey, someone’s gotta do it, and I was more than happy to take on the challenge.
- There were 24 clubs battling it out, and let me tell you, the competition was fierce.
- I was particularly interested in the leading goalscorer. Turns out, it was Chris Wood from Leeds United, banging in 27 goals. What a beast!
- Attendances were up, which is always a good sign. Mostly due to some teams that got relegated from the Premier League, like Aston Villa. Big names, you know?
- Peterborough did pretty well for themselves, and gained 54 points!
I even found out some interesting history. Turns out, this whole thing started way back in 1892 as the Football League Second Division. Then, in 1992, it became the First Division when the top clubs split off to form the Premier League. And finally, in 2004, it got rebranded as the Football League Championship, before becoming the EFL Championship in 2016. Phew, that’s a lot of name changes!
But back to 2016-17, I compiled all my data, organized it, and analyzed the heck out of it. It was a ton of work, but I found it all super interesting. I mean, how could you not? It was like a puzzle, and I was putting all the pieces together. Finally, I put all the information together and created a presentation.
Honestly, it’s been a real blast keeping up with all of this. I can’t wait to see what the next season has in store!
