Okay, so I wanted to figure out what “vision” actually does in MLB The Show. I mean, I see the stat on players’ cards all the time, but I wasn’t really sure how it affected gameplay. So, I did what any reasonable person would do – I dug in and did some experimenting.
First, I started playing a bunch of games and paying really close attention to how my batters were doing. I used guys with high vision, guys with low vision, and tried to get a feel for the differences. At first, it was kind of hard to tell, you know? Everyone was still hitting the ball sometimes and missing sometimes.
Then, I started to notice something. When I was using a player with high vision, even if my swing wasn’t perfect, even if the little circle thingy (the PCI) wasn’t right on the ball, I was still making contact more often. It was like, the bat had a bigger sweet spot or something. With low vision players, if my PCI was off, it was a whiff almost every time.
- High Vision: More contact, even on imperfect swings.
- Low Vision: More swings and misses unless you’re really precise.
I also messed around with the PCI settings. There’s this outer ring that shows up before the pitch, and it turns out that’s directly related to vision. The higher the vision, the bigger that outer ring. What this means is, you’ve got a bigger margin for error. You don’t have to be as precise to make contact.
So what’s the takeaway?
Basically, vision is all about how forgiving the game is with your swings. If you’re a player who struggles to get the PCI right on the ball, then guys with high vision are gonna be your best friends. You’ll still strike out sometimes, but you’ll be putting the ball in play a lot more. And if you are a super accurate player, maybe a high-contact guy works for you.
Think of it like this – Pete Rose, he was all about “see the ball, hit the ball,” right? Well, vision is like seeing the ball better. It makes it seem bigger, easier to hit. And when you hit more, you get more hits, plain and simple.
But, someone told me that, if you’re playing the game on the “directional hitting” mode, vision might not matter as much. I don’t use that mode myself, so I can’t say for sure, but it’s something to keep in mind.
So, there you have it. My little journey into understanding vision in MLB The Show. Hope this helps some of you out there! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go try to hit some dingers with my new found knowledge.
