So, today I decided to give that “Sydney’s state” crossword a shot. I’d seen it pop up in a few different places, like the Daily Themed Crossword and the NY Times, and figured, why not? It seemed like a fun little challenge.
I started by looking at the clue itself: “Sydney’s state.” It seemed simple enough, but I knew crossword clues can be tricky sometimes. My first thought was, “Okay, Sydney is in Australia, so it must be one of the Australian states.”
I started brainstorming the Australian states I could remember. There’s Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia… but none of those seemed to fit the bill, especially since some of the clues I was looking at hinted at a shorter answer, like an abbreviation.
Then it hit me! New South Wales! That’s the state Sydney is in. And what do you know, it’s often abbreviated as NSW.
- I plugged “NSW” into the crossword grid, and bam, it fit perfectly with the other clues I had already solved.
- It felt pretty good to crack that one, I gotta say.
I spent a good chunk of time scouring the internet for any hints or solutions. I checked out a bunch of crossword solver sites, but they mostly just gave me the answer without explaining how to get there. That wasn’t much help. I wanted to figure it out myself, not just be given the answer.
It was a bit of a head-scratcher at first, but once I remembered New South Wales and its abbreviation, it all clicked into place. That’s the thing about crosswords, isn’t it? Sometimes the answer is right there in front of you, but you just need to look at it from a different angle.
Anyway, I kept at it, filling in more and more of the puzzle. It’s a pretty satisfying feeling, watching the grid slowly fill up with words. It is like putting together a jigsaw puzzle, but with words instead of pictures.
It took me a while, but I finally managed to complete the whole thing. Felt like a real accomplishment! It’s amazing how much you can learn just by doing a simple crossword puzzle. You pick up new words, learn about different places, and even get a little history lesson sometimes. Pretty cool, right?
So, yeah, that was my little adventure with the “Sydney’s state” crossword today. It was a fun way to kill some time and give my brain a little workout. If you’re into crosswords, I definitely recommend giving it a try. And if you get stuck, just remember what I said about New South Wales. You never know, it might just come in handy!
Overall
It was a fun challenge, and I’m glad I stuck with it. Definitely feeling a bit smarter now. Maybe I’ll tackle another one tomorrow. We’ll see.
