Okay, so, Zay Flowers and his 40-yard dash time, let’s get into it. I wanted to see what this guy was all about and whether he really was as fast as everyone’s been saying, so I’ve done some testing on my own.
First off, I watched a bunch of his games. Seriously, a lot. I watched his highlights, his lowlights, his combines, everything I could find. Then I started to record these videos to analyze.
After I watched those games, I started to try and time him myself. Not exactly scientific, I know. I used a stopwatch, my phone, and even tried that old “one-Mississippi, two-Mississippi” trick. Yeah, it was a mess.
My “High-Tech” Setup
- Stopwatch: An old thing I found in a drawer. Probably off by a few milliseconds, but hey, it’s something.
- Phone Timer: The standard timer app. Seemed accurate enough, I guess.
- Counting: Like I said, the “Mississippi” method. Highly unreliable, but I gave it a shot anyway.
I probably did this a hundred times, no joke. I’d watch a clip of him running, start the timer, stop the timer, and write down the number. Then I’d do it again. And again. My notebook is full of scribbled numbers. I recorded all of these videos I watched and tried to time them over and over.
The results? Well, let’s just say my numbers were all over the place. I had him clocked anywhere from 4.3 to 4.5, I even got a few times at 4.6. It wasn’t perfect, not even close. But I was getting a rough idea. And doing all these timings, I’m seeing how fast this guy really is.
Then, I looked up his official time. 4.42 seconds. That’s pretty fast. But you know what’s cooler than a number? Watching him on the field. The guy’s a blur. He makes defenders look like they’re stuck in slow motion. I can see why his 40 time is what it is.
So, yeah, my experiment wasn’t exactly precise. But it gave me a whole new appreciation for Zay Flowers and his speed. It’s one thing to read about it, but it’s another thing to try and measure it yourself, even if it’s just with a stopwatch and a whole lot of patience. And those videos really showed me how fast he was, so I was pretty happy with what I did. This was a really fun experiment for me.
