Okay, so I saw this “Rome Odunze 40 time” thing trending, and I was like, “Alright, let’s see what the hype is about.” I’m not a professional athlete or anything, just your average Joe who likes to stay in shape. But, I do enjoy testing myself, so I figured, why not try to run a 40-yard dash and see how I stack up?

Getting Started
First things first, I needed to find a place to actually run. I don’t have access to a fancy football field, so I just went down to the local park. It’s got a decent stretch of flat grass that I figured would work. I also remembered some coach telling me to warm-up.
- Warm-up: Did some basic stretches, you know, leg swings, arm circles, the usual stuff. I’m not trying to pull a hamstring here.
- Mark the Distance:I am not having the tools so, I just paced it out. One big step is roughly a yard, right? So, I took 40 big steps and marked the start and finish with some sticks I found. Super scientific, I know.
The Run (or Runs)
Now for the main event. I’m not gonna lie, I felt a little silly lining up like I was at the NFL Combine. But hey, gotta commit, right?
- First Attempt: I just took off. No fancy starting stance, no real technique, just pure, unadulterated running. I felt fast-ish. I used my phone’s stopwatch, which is probably not the most accurate, but it’s all I had.
- Review:Checked the time, and, well, let’s just say it wasn’t anywhere near Odunze’s. It was a humble reminder.
- Second Attempt: Okay, time to get a little more serious. I tried to remember some tips I’d seen online – stay low, drive with your legs, pump your arms. I even tried to get into a three-point stance, which felt awkward as heck.
- Review: I did shave off a bit of time on the second try, so maybe the “technique” helped a little. But still, I was nowhere near the pros.
- Few More Tries: I kept going, trying to refine my start, my stride, everything. I was definitely getting tired, and my times started to get worse, not better.
The Results (and Reality Check)
After about an hour of this, I was gassed. My legs were burning, I was sweating like crazy, and my times were, let’s be honest, pretty average. The best I managed, according to my trusty phone stopwatch, was significantly slower than a pro, not a huge surprise.
So, what did I learn from this little experiment?
- One, those NFL guys are fast. Like, ridiculously fast.
- Two, there’s a lot more to running a 40-yard dash than just running. Technique matters. A lot.
- Three, I need to stick to my regular workouts. Maybe I’ll try this again in a few months and see if I can improve, but for now, I’m happy to just admire Odunze’s speed from afar.
It was a fun, humbling experience. It gave me a new appreciation for the athleticism of these guys. I might not be breaking any records, but at least I got a good workout in, and a good story to tell.
