Okay, so today I decided to dig into the stats from the Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers game. I’ve been trying to get better at understanding baseball stats, and I figured, what better way than to actually track them myself?

First, I needed to find a game. I just picked a recent one – Mets vs. Brewers. I am a beginner of baseball.
Then came the hard part – finding the actual data. where could I get all the player stats?I used to go to the playground and see the game result.
I started by jotting down all the players from both teams. I felt like an official scorekeeper or something! Then, for each player, I wanted to track a few key things:
- At-Bats (AB): How many times they came up to bat.
- Hits (H): How many times they successfully got a hit.
- Runs Batted In (RBI): How many runs they scored for their team.
- Strikeouts (SO):How many times they struck out.
I carefully watched the game, and every time a player came up to bat, I made a little tally mark in my notebook. It was kind of fun, actually! It made me pay way more attention to each at-bat than I usually do.
The tedious Work
It got a little tricky keeping track of everything, especially when there were a lot of substitutions. I think I messed up a couple of times, but I did my best to be accurate.
This part was definitely the most time-consuming, and to be honest, it got a little tedious. But I stuck with it!I keep focusing on the game, and tried to get all infor I want.
My Little Achievement
After the game ended, I had a whole page full of numbers. It wasn’t perfect, but it was my record of the game. And I felt like I understood the game a little bit better, having gone through the process of tracking everything * example, Player A had 4 at-bats, 2 hits, 1 RBI, and 1 strikeout. Seeing it all laid out like that made it much clearer how each player contributed to the game.

I might try doing this again for another game. Maybe I’ll even add more stats, like walks or stolen bases. It’s a good way to learn, and it makes watching the game even more engaging.
Next time, I will try to record more stats.
