Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of buzz about Russell Wilson’s 40-yard dash time, and I figured, why not give it a shot myself? I mean, I’m no professional athlete, but I like to think I’m in decent shape. So, I decided to put myself to the test.

Getting Started
First things first, I needed a place to run. I found a local track that was pretty empty – perfect for avoiding any embarrassing wipeouts in front of a crowd. I also made sure I had my phone with me to use as a stopwatch. My buddy who I brought with me, Mark, was my official timer.
Warm-up
Before I even thought about sprinting, I knew I had to warm up. I’m not as young as I used to be! I did some:
- light jogging
- leg swings
- arm stretches
Basically, anything to get the blood flowing and avoid pulling a muscle. The last thing I wanted was to end my experiment before it even began.
The Runs
Alright, time for the main event. I lined up at the starting line, took a deep breath, and… GO! I pushed off as hard as I could, trying to channel my inner Usain Bolt (wishful thinking, I know).
My first run felt pretty good, but I knew I could do better. Mark gave me the time, and honestly, it wasn’t anywhere near Wilson’s 4.55 seconds. No surprise there!
I took a few minutes to catch my breath and tried again. And again. Each time, I focused on my form, trying to keep my strides long and my arms pumping. Mark was diligently recording each attempt, offering some “helpful” (and slightly sarcastic) commentary along the way.
The Results (and Reality Check)
After several attempts, I was pretty gassed. I looked at the times Mark had written down, and let’s just say, I won’t be challenging any NFL players anytime soon. My best time was decent for a regular guy, but nowhere near professional athlete standards. It was a humbling experience, to say the least.

It really puts into perspective how incredibly fast and athletic these guys are. It’s one thing to watch them on TV, but actually trying to replicate even a small part of their performance is a whole different ballgame. I gained a new level of respect for Russell Wilson and all the other athletes out there.
So, that’s my 40-yard dash adventure. I had fun, got a good workout, and learned that I’m definitely not an NFL prospect. Maybe I’ll stick to blogging.
