Okay, so “smoking golf” – sounds weird, right? Let me tell you about my little experiment today. I’m no pro golfer, far from it. But I do enjoy a good cigar now and then. So I thought, why not combine the two?

First, I grabbed my clubs. Nothing fancy, just a basic set I picked up a while back. Then, I selected my cigar for the day – a nice, medium-bodied one I’d been saving. Don’t want anything too strong that’ll mess with my (already shaky) game.
I headed to the driving range. Figured that was the safest bet to start. I wouldn’t want to lose a cigar and a ball in the rough on the actual course.
The Experiment Begins
I set up my tee, lit the cigar, and took a few practice swings. Felt a little awkward at first, trying to balance the club and the cigar. It’s like patting your head and rubbing your tummy at the same time.
- Swing 1: Total whiff. The cigar almost fell out of my mouth.
- Swing 2: Skewed it way to the right. Maybe the smoke got in my eyes?
- Swing 3: Okay, that was better. Actually made decent contact.
I continued like this for a while, alternating puffs and swings. It’s surprisingly tricky. You have to time your puff so it doesn’t interfere with your swing. Plus, you don’t want to ash all over your glove (or the grass).
After hitting what it is must be dozens of balls. I get it!
It is the breath that matters.
I have to swing the golf club after I breath out the smoke!
Conclusion
So, can you golf while smoking a cigar? Yes. Should you? Well, that depends. It’s definitely not going to improve your game, at least not at first. But it’s a fun challenge, and it does add a certain… I don’t know… sophistication to the whole thing.

I wouldn’t recommend it for a serious competition, but for a casual round with friends? Sure, why not? Just be prepared to look a little silly at times, and maybe lose a few extra balls (and ash a lot).
