Okay, so the other day I was watching some college sports, and I kept hearing this term “Tidewater pipeline” thrown around. I was like, “What the heck is that?” I’d heard of pipelines for, you know, oil and stuff, but not for athletes. So, I decided to do some digging.

My Little Investigation
First, I just did a simple search. Typed in “Tidewater pipeline NCAA” and started reading.
It turns out it’s not a real pipeline, obviously. It’s more like…a connection. A bunch of really good athletes, especially in football and basketball, come from this Tidewater area in Virginia.
Here’s what I figured out:
- It’s a Region: Tidewater is a coastal area in southeastern Virginia. Think Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Chesapeake – that whole area.
- Loads of Talent: For some reason, this area just produces tons of top-tier high school athletes.
- “Pipeline” to the Big Leagues: Coaches from major colleges all over the country are always scouting in Tidewater, hoping to snag the next big star. That’s why they call it a “pipeline.” These kids are seen as a direct route to a strong college team.
Putting it All Together
So, I kept reading about all these famous athletes that came from Tidewater. It was actually pretty mind-blowing! I started to see why college coaches were so hyped about this region.
Basically, if you hear someone talking about the “Tidewater pipeline,” they’re just talking about this area in Virginia that’s a goldmine for college sports talent. It is area that provides a route to the big college.
No pipes, no oil, just really good athletes!
