Well now, let me tell ya ’bout Dave Roberts. Ain’t no one ever thought he’d go far, but look at him now! He started out, ya know, just a regular ol’ bench coach in San Diego back in 2016. Didn’t have nothin’ big to his name back then, but somethin’ about him made them Dodgers pick him up as their manager. And it wasn’t long before folks started payin’ attention. I mean, the man ain’t just sittin’ around, he’s been workin’ hard, takin’ the team to the top.
In 2020, wouldn’t ya know it, he done led them Dodgers to win their first World Series since 1988! Now, that’s a long time to wait. A lotta folks thought they’d never get there again, but ol’ Dave made it happen. Mind you, it was a funny year, what with the COVID mess, but that didn’t stop ’em. They took the title in that short season, and boy, was it sweet for them fans. I reckon it was the best thing that happened to Los Angeles in a long time.
People talk all kinds of things ’bout Roberts, but if you ask Mookie Betts, he’ll tell ya the truth. Betts said, “To be honest, Dave is the real reason why we’re here.” Now, that’s high praise comin’ from one of the best players out there. Ain’t no doubt in my mind that Roberts knows how to manage a team, even if some folks like to doubt him sometimes. But hey, all the greats had their critics, didn’t they?
Roberts, he’s always keepin’ busy. Just recently, they say he surprised a lotta folks when he said the Dodgers had met with Shohei Ohtani, the two-time MVP. Ain’t that somethin’? I tell ya, that got a lotta folks talkin’. Ain’t no one expected that, but Roberts? He’s always got somethin’ up his sleeve.
And ya know, the Dodgers, they ain’t lookin’ to change things up any time soon. Roberts, he’s set to return as the manager again in 2024, for his ninth season. I reckon that says a lot ’bout how the team feels ‘bout him. Andrew Friedman, the big boss over there, he confirmed it, said Roberts is gonna stick around for another year. Ain’t no one questionin’ that decision now. They got a good thing goin’.
Sure, Roberts has been through his share of ups and downs. He knows full well the criticism that comes his way. Every big manager gets it, just part of the job. But he don’t let it get to him. He keeps his head down, works hard, and proves ‘em wrong when it counts. When the Dodgers won the World Series, you could see the pride on his face. It was like he knew all the hard work had finally paid off.
So what’s next for Roberts? Well, I reckon he’s got a lot more to give. Ain’t no stopping him now, not when he’s been through so much and made history with the Dodgers. I wouldn’t be surprised if he goes on to win another World Series title. If he keeps his head straight, the Dodgers are gonna keep winning, and Roberts will go down in history as one of the greatest managers there ever was.
All them players, the fans, they all look up to him now. Ain’t no question in my mind that Dave Roberts is here to stay. He’s been through a lot, and he’s only gettin’ better. If you ask me, the Dodgers done made the right choice when they brought him on. He might just be the man who gets ’em another title real soon.
