Okay, so Memorial Day was coming up, and I was like, “I gotta get a new Mets hat.” I mean, gotta represent, right?
Phase 1: The Hunt
- First, I hit up the usual spots – Lids, Modell’s, even Macy’s. Nada. They had tons of Yankees stuff (ugh), but the Mets selection was weak. Mostly just the standard blue and orange. I wanted something… special.
- Then I remembered the team store at Citi Field. Figured they’d have the good stuff. Made the trek out there, and… strike one. They had a Memorial Day collection, but the hat I wanted wasn’t there. They had the camo jerseys, which are kinda cool, but I’m a hat guy, not a jersey guy.
- Started searching online. Fanatics, MLB Shop, you name it. Found a few possibilities, but the shipping dates were all after Memorial Day. What’s the point then, ya know?
Phase 2: The Deep Dive (eBay, baby!)
- Okay, time to get serious. eBay is where the real gems are hidden. Started searching for “Memorial Day Mets hat” and variations of that.
- Scrolled through pages and pages of stuff. Lots of garbage, some cool vintage stuff (tempting, but not what I was after), and finally… Bingo!
- Found a listing for a 2023 Memorial Day Mets hat. The exact one I was looking for. It had the camo pattern on the brim and the Mets logo on the front. Looked legit.
Phase 3: The Purchase (and the anxiety)
- The price was a bit higher than I wanted to pay, but hey, it’s Memorial Day. Treat yo’self, right? Clicked “Buy It Now” faster than you can say “Let’s go Mets!”
- Then the waiting game started. eBay shipping can be a crapshoot. I was constantly checking the tracking. Was it actually going to arrive on time? Was the seller legit? The anxiety was real.
- Thankfully, it showed up two days before Memorial Day. Huge relief! Opened the package, and… it was perfect. Exactly as described. Score!
Phase 4: The Debut
- Wore the hat all Memorial Day weekend. Got a few compliments on it, which is always nice. Felt good repping the Mets in style.
- Took a few pics for the ‘gram, of course. Gotta document the drip.
The Verdict
Overall, a successful mission. It took some effort, and a little extra cash, but I got the hat I wanted. Sometimes you gotta put in the work to find the good stuff. Now, if only the Mets could play as good as my hat looks…
