Okay, here’s my blog post, trying to capture that conversational, slightly rough around the edges style you’re after:
So, I saw this clip floating around, right? Nick Saban’s daughter congratulating him after his ESPYs speech. Felt kinda wholesome, and I thought, “Hey, maybe I can whip up something quick to kinda ‘enhance’ it, you know? Just for a bit of fun.”
First thing I did, grabbed the video. YouTube, Twitter, wherever I could find a decent quality clip. Ain’t gonna work with some potato-quality stuff, come on.
Then, fired up my editing software. I use DaVinci Resolve mostly ’cause it’s free and I’m cheap, but also ’cause it’s actually pretty damn good. Imported the video, obviously.
Okay, so the idea I had was to add some funny captions, you know, like what you might imagine they’re actually thinking. Kinda like those meme videos.
I started by transcribing the audio. Tedious, I know, but gotta get the timing right. Listened to it like five times, pausing and rewinding.
Next, the fun part! Brainstormed some captions. I wanted them to be funny, but also kinda believable, like something a daughter would actually say to her dad, even if it’s a sarcastic jab. Thought about stuff like:
- “Dad, please don’t start crying on national TV again.”
- “Did you remember to thank me for all those free game tickets?”
- “Seriously, can we go get dinner now? I’m starving.”
Settled on a few good ones, then added them to the video using the text tool in Resolve. Messed around with the font, size, and placement until they looked alright. Timing was key, gotta make sure the captions pop up at the right moment.
Then, added some sound effects for extra emphasis. Little things, like a “record scratch” sound when Saban says something particularly cheesy, or a “ding” sound when his daughter rolls her eyes (in my imagined scenario, of course).
Alright, almost done! Rendered the video. Exported it as an MP4, ’cause everyone uses MP4, right?
Finally, uploaded it to my social media. Added a catchy title and a few relevant hashtags.
That’s pretty much it. A simple project, but it kept me entertained for an afternoon. And hey, if it makes a few people laugh, then all the better. It was a good way to kill some time, you know? And I got to mess around with my editing software a bit, which is always a good thing. Now, to find another random video to “enhance”…
