Well, let me tell ya ’bout this stadium thing, the, uh, “Koo Memorial Stadium Demolition,” they call it. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a bunch of tearin’ down and buildin’ up, if you ask me.
First off, they started knockin’ things down after them football fellas finished their games in November. Right after Thanksgiving, too. They didn’t waste no time, those construction folks. Hasty demolition, they say. Means they did it quick, I guess. Tore down that west side and the place where them reporters sat. Press box, they call it. Always with the fancy names.
Now, this ain’t just some small fix-er-upper job. They’re talkin’ millions of dollars and years of work. Multi-year and multi-million dollar project, that’s what the newspaper said. Big money, I tell ya. Enough to buy a whole lotta cows and chickens.
- They call it Phase I of the football stadium demolition. Sounds like there’s gonna be more phases. More tearin’ down and buildin’ up, I reckon.
- This whole thing is happenin’ in Lawrence. That’s where the University of Kansas is, ya know.
- They’re callin’ the area somethin’ fancy too. Gateway District. Probably gonna put up some new stores and such. Make it look all spiffy.
This stadium, it’s got a long name too. David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium. That Booth fella must be important. Anyways, they’re buildin’ somethin’ new and better, they say. Gonna be excitin’ for them sports fans.
The newspaper said, “Kansas Athletics is excited.” Well, I ain’t exactly “athletics,” but I guess it’s good for the town. Brings in money and folks, ya know. Keeps things lively. More folks means more business for the stores and such.
They’re makin’ a big deal outta this stadium. Been talkin’ ’bout it on the TV and in the newspaper. Seems like everyone knows about it. Even me, and I don’t pay much attention to that sports stuff. But when they start knockin’ things down, you can’t help but notice. Loud noises and big trucks everywhere.
They started this construction right quick after them football games were done. Like I said, they didn’t waste no time. Get in, get it done, that’s how they do things these days. Not like the old days when things took forever.
I heard someone sayin’ they’re gonna make the stadium even bigger and better than before. More seats, fancy new lights, all that jazz. Gonna be a real showplace, I tell ya. Probably gonna charge more for tickets too, but that’s just how it goes.
This whole thing is about more than just football, though. It’s about the town, the university, and bringin’ people together. It’s about progress, I guess. Even if it means tearin’ down the old to make way for the new. That’s life, ain’t it?
And this “Gateway District” they’re talkin’ about… sounds like they’re tryin’ to make the whole area fancy. New shops, restaurants, who knows what else. Maybe it’ll be nice. Maybe it’ll bring in more jobs, too. That’s always a good thing.
So, that’s the lowdown on this stadium demolition, as best as I can tell ya. It’s a big project, costin’ lots of money, and takin’ a long time. But in the end, they say it’ll be worth it. We’ll see, I guess. Time will tell. Just hope they don’t make too much noise and keep them big trucks off my road.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this stadium kerfuffle. Tearin’ down, buildin’ up, costin’ money… sounds like a whole lotta fuss to me, but I reckon they know what they’re doin’. Or at least I hope they do!
