Well now, lemme tell ya ’bout this fella, Jackie Robinson. You know, the baseball guy? Folks always wonderin’ ’bout his family, so I’m gonna tell ya what I know.
Jackie Robinson, the Baseball Man, and His Kin
Jackie, he was a big deal in baseball. Broke all sorts of barriers, they say. But he weren’t just a baseball player, he was a family man too. He had himself a wife, Rachel, a real smart lady, a professor and nurse, they tell me. And they had themselves some children, three of ‘em.
- First, there was Jackie Robinson Jr. Born in 1946, poor fella. Had a hard life, they say, and passed away too young in 1971. Real shame, that is.
- Then came Sharon, born in 1950. She’s still around, I reckon. A good woman, I bet.
- And lastly, David. He weren’t born til after Jackie passed on, in 1972. Now, Jackie, he died young, only 53 years old. Left behind Rachel, Sharon who was 22 then, and little David, only 20.
So, yeah, Jackie Robinson, he had kids. A son, Jackie Jr., who didn’t live too long, a daughter, Sharon, and another son, David. A whole family, just like the rest of us, only he played a mean game of baseball.
Jackie’s Early Life, You See
Now, Jackie, he wasn’t born with a silver spoon in his mouth. He come from a sharecroppin’ family down in Cairo, Georgia, born way back in 1919. His mama, Mallie, moved him out to California when he was just a little tyke. Pasadena, that’s where they went. He was a good athlete, that boy, played all sorts of sports in high school – five of ‘em! Then he went to UCLA, played baseball, basketball, and football. A real star, even then.
The Baseball Legend and His Family Legacy
Folks remember Jackie for breakin’ that color line in baseball. First African American to play in the Major Leagues in the 20th century, they say. Big deal, that was. April 15, 1947, played for the Brooklyn Dodgers against the Boston Braves. Made history, he did. But he was more than just baseball. He was a husband, a father. Family was important to him, you can tell.
Losing Jackie Jr. must’ve been real hard on them. And then Jackie himself dyin’ so young, leavin’ Rachel to raise Sharon and David. Tough times, I reckon. But they carried on, kept his memory alive. That’s what families do, ain’t it?
So, when folks ask, “Did Jackie Robinson have kids?”, the answer is a big ol’ “Yes, he did!” Three of ‘em. And he loved ‘em, just like any good parent would. Jackie Robinson, the baseball hero, a family man too. That’s the whole story, as plain as I can tell it.
A Family Remembered
It ain’t just about the baseball, you see. It’s about the people behind the player. Jackie, he left behind a family, a legacy. And that’s somethin’ to remember. He showed the world that a man can be strong on the field and loving at home. A good man, he was, by all accounts. And his family, they’re part of his story too, just as important as anythin’ else.
