Alright, let’s talk about this Vikings coach fella. You know, the one they got runnin’ the show. He’s kinda new, this Kevin O’Connell guy. Folks say he became the head coach in 2022, somethin’ like that. He’s the tenth one, they tell me. Tenth! That’s a whole lotta coaches, ain’t it? Makes ya wonder what happened to all them other fellas.
This O’Connell, he seems alright, I guess. They say he likes his players tough. Tough and smart, you know? Like, they gotta know the game, not just run around like chickens with their heads cut off. And they gotta care, gotta be passionate, they call it. Means they gotta really wanna win, not just go through the motions. That makes sense, don’t it? If you’re gonna do somethin’, do it right, I always say.
I saw a picture of him once, this O’Connell. Standin’ on the sidelines, lookin’ all serious. He was with one of them receivers, that Jefferson boy. Seemed like he was happy, or maybe worried, hard to tell with these young fellas. They were playin’ some team, Chicago I think. They won that game? I don’t even remember. Too much goin’ on to keep track of it all, you know?

Now, they got another coach, Brian Flores. He’s the defensive guy. They say he’s doin’ a good job. “Thrived” they said. Big word for doin’ good, I reckon. He’s gotta make sure them boys on defense stop the other team from scorin’. That’s important, real important. You can’t win if the other team keeps scorin’, that’s for sure.
This whole coachin’ thing, it’s complicated. They gotta figure out who plays where, what plays to run, all sorts of stuff. And they gotta keep them players motivated. That’s a tough job, I tell ya. These young fellas, they got a lot on their minds these days. Money and fame and such. It ain’t like it used to be, back in my day. We just played for the love of the game, you know?
They had a coach a while back, Brad Childress his name was. That was, what, 2007? Seems like a lifetime ago. He wasn’t so bad, but they didn’t make the playoffs. Folks weren’t too happy about that. Vikings fans, they want a winner. They ain’t had a real good team in a long time, not since… well, I don’t even remember. Too long ago.
So, this O’Connell, he’s gotta do better. He’s gotta get them Vikings to the playoffs. That’s what the fans want, that’s what the owners want, that’s what everybody wants. Can he do it? I don’t know. We’ll see, I guess. It all comes down to winnin’, don’t it? At the end of the day, that’s all that matters. Winnin’ and losin’, that’s the whole darn story.
They got another game comin’ up, a Monday night game they said. Against Chicago again? Maybe. I’ll try to watch it, if I can stay awake. These games are late, and this old lady needs her sleep. But I like to see them Vikings do good. Makes the whole town happy, you know? Gives folks somethin’ to cheer about. And Lord knows, we need a little cheerin’ these days.
Anyways, that’s about all I know about this Vikings coach and his team. Hope they do alright. Hope they win some games. Hope they make us proud. That’s all you can ask for, really.
