Well, howdy there! Let’s jaw about this Baylor basketball team and who they got comin’ in for 2023. Folks are callin’ it “recruiting,” but to me, it’s just gettin’ some young’uns to play ball. Seems like Baylor’s done alright, from what I hear.
Now, they got this boy, Ja’Kobe Walter. Heard he’s from some fancy academy place. Folks say he’s a real good shooter. Goodness knows, we need some shooters. Back in my day, we just shot the ball, none of this fancy stuff. But if he can put the ball in the hoop, I reckon that’s all that matters. They say he’s got some “scout look” too. Means he looks good playin’, I guess. Heck, if you’re gonna play, might as well look good doin’ it.
Then there’s this fella, Tounde Yessoufou. Big name, ain’t it? Comes from California, they say. A “wing” player. Lordy, I don’t even know what that means. Guess he can run fast and jump high, like a bird. They announced he was comin’ on some Thursday. Folks got all excited. Guess he must be pretty good. Heard some fellas on the radio talkin’ ‘bout him. They were all worked up, so he must be somethin’ special.
And they got a whole bunch of other fellas comin’ too. Jayden Nunn, Langston Love, Josh Ojianwuna, and Miro Little. Sounds like a bunch of names you’d hear at a church picnic! Hope they can play ball better than they can pick watermelon. I ain’t seen ‘em play, but folks seem to think they’re somethin’ else.
- Ja’Kobe Walter: Heard he’s a shooter.
- Tounde Yessoufou: A “wing” player, whatever that is.
- Other fellas: Jayden, Langston, Josh, and Miro. Hope they’re good.
Now, some folks who watch these young’uns all the time, they rank ’em. Say who’s good and who ain’t. Baylor, they say, is sittin’ pretty high up in them rankings. Number 16, last I heard. That’s pretty good, ain’t it? Means they got some good young talent comin’ in. They say these rankings fellas spend hours watchin’ the boys play. Must be borin’ work, but I guess somebody gotta do it.
This here “247Sports” place, they do the rankin’. I don’t know nothin’ ‘bout ‘em, but they seem to know their basketball. They say they watch these boys play a lot. Countless hours, they say. That’s a lot of watchin’, let me tell you. I reckon they know what they’re talkin’ about, though.
So, from what I gather, Baylor’s basketball team got themselves a good batch of youngsters comin’ in for 2023. Got some shooters, some runners, and some fellas with funny names. And them rankin’ fellas, they think Baylor did alright. Number 16 ain’t too shabby. Now, we just gotta wait and see if these young’uns can actually play some ball. That’s the real test, ain’t it? All this talk and rankin’ don’t mean a lick if you can’t put the ball in the hoop.
I tell ya, basketball’s changed a lot since I was young. We didn’t have all this fancy talk and rankings. We just played. But I reckon the goal’s still the same: win the game. And if these young fellas can do that, well, then Baylor’s gonna be alright.
Folks are always lookin’ for the next big thing, the next star player. Maybe one of these boys will be it. Maybe they’ll all be it. Who knows? That’s the fun of it, ain’t it? Waitin’ and seein’ what happens. It’s like plantin’ a garden. You put the seeds in the ground, water ’em, and hope somethin’ good grows. Baylor’s planted their seeds, now it’s time to see if they got a good crop comin’.
So, there you have it. That’s what I know ‘bout this Baylor basketball recruitin’ for 2023. Not a whole lot, maybe, but enough to get you thinkin’. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go make some supper. All this talk about basketball has made me hungry.
