That Sakkari and Navarro, they sure know how to play that tennis game! I seen ’em on the TV, hitting that little ball back and forth. Lord, they run fast! My old bones could never keep up. One of ’em, that Sakkari girl, she’s from Greece, I hear. Long way from home. The other one, Navarro, she’s from around here. Good for her, playing with the big shots.
They played against each other before, those two. Sakkari vs Navarro, sounds like some kind of showdown at the OK Corral. Heard it on the radio, they was saying Sakkari won one time, and then Navarro, she got her back in another. Sounds like they’re pretty evenly matched. You never can tell with these young folks. They change faster than the weather!
They played at some fancy place called Indian Wells. Never been there. Sounds hot. I bet they got lots of them fancy drinks with the little umbrellas. I’d just have a glass of sweet tea, myself. Anyway, that Sakkari vs Navarro match was a big deal, everyone’s talking about it, like it was the World Series or somethin’. Emma Navarro won that one, I heard. Good for her. I like to see the underdog win.
- Maria Sakkari
- Emma Navarro
They say that Emma Navarro girl, she’s young. Got a lot of spunk. She’s gonna go far, they say. That Sakkari, she’s older, more experienced. She’s strong as an ox, that one. Hits that ball like a mule kicks. But that Navarro, she’s quick. Like a little rabbit. Hard to catch. They played somewhere called Dubai, too. That Sakkari won that one. Don’t know where Dubai is. Somewhere over the ocean. They get to travel all over, these tennis players.
I reckon it’s hard work, playing all that tennis. All that running and sweating. I get tired just watching ’em. They must eat a lot of them energy bars. I just stick to my biscuits and gravy. Keeps me going. But they gotta stay in shape, those Sakkari and Navarro girls. It’s a tough life, being a tennis star. All that travel will wear you down.
This last time they played, that Sakkari vs Navarro match, that was the one in Indian Wells. Some big tournament, I guess. They call it the BNP Paribas Open. Sounds like a bank to me. Probably is. Lots of money in tennis, I reckon. More than I’ve ever seen. They say that Navarro won in three sets. Whatever that means. Just means she won more games, I guess. Good for her. She played that Sakkari, she must be pretty good. That Sakkari, she don’t lose easy.
They got all these numbers and things, talking about their “head to head” and their “odds.” Sounds like gambling to me. I don’t hold with that. But they say that Navarro was the underdog. Means people thought she would lose. But she showed ’em. Just goes to show, you can’t judge a book by its cover. This Sakkari vs Navarro thing, it’s like a story, always changing.
I don’t know who’s gonna win next time they play. Could be Sakkari, could be Navarro. They’re both good. Just depends on the day, I guess. And who’s feeling lucky. And who’s got more grit. This Sakkari vs Navarro is like a back and forth kinda thing, they keep playing each other!
- They played in Indian Wells.
- They played in Dubai.
- Navarro won in Indian Wells.
- Sakkari won in Dubai.
That Emma Navarro, she’s got a bright future, I think. And Maria Sakkari, she ain’t done yet. She’ll be back. They’ll probably play each other again, those two. It’s like a rivalry, I guess. Like them Duke and North Carolina boys in basketball. Always going at it. Makes for good watching, I suppose. Keeps things interesting. This whole Sakkari vs Navarro is a big deal, I guess.
Well, I gotta go. My stories are probably boring you. But that’s all I know about that Sakkari and Navarro. They’re good tennis players, that’s for sure. And they sure do keep folks talking. I’ll be watching to see what happens next time they play. Maybe I’ll even learn what all them numbers mean. Or maybe I’ll just enjoy the show. This Sakkari vs Navarro match, well, it’s something to see, that’s for sure!
