Well, I heard some folks talkin’ ’bout that young fella, Ethan Petry. They say he’s gonna be somethin’ big in that baseball game, that MLB draft thingamajig. I don’t know much ’bout all that fancy stuff, but I reckon if he can hit a ball good, he’s alright in my book.

My grandson, he watches all them games, he told me all ’bout it. Says this Ethan kid can hit the ball a mile. He is just so good. They say that Ethan Petry is the second-best player. Second-best ain’t bad, not bad at all. I remember back in my day, we used to play with a stick and a rock. Didn’t need no fancy draft or lottery. We was playin’ to be the best and we never need no ranking to tell us who was best. Nowadays, things are so different. You have all this technology and money involved. It is crazy. I remember the days when I was young and it was all simple. Those were the good days. We would never care about all these things that young folks care about now.

He is bigger than my son, and my son is a big man. He reminds me of my son when he was a young boy. He was always bigger than all the other boys in his class.

I heard he hits lots of them home runs. Folks get excited ’bout that. I guess it’s a big deal in baseball. Back in my day, we just wanted to get on base. Didn’t matter how far you hit it. But times change, I reckon. These days, people love to see home runs. My grandson is always glued to the TV when baseball is on. He is always hoping to see a home run. When he sees one, he jumps up and down like a crazy person. He will always yell “That’s a home run!” when he sees one on TV.
