Well, let me tell you, this whole thing about Purdue mascot Michigan, it’s a real head-scratcher. You see, them two, Purdue and Michigan, they got different ways of doing things. It’s like me trying to make biscuits like my neighbor, they just ain’t gonna be the same.
That Purdue, they got this train thing. I heard some youngin’ talk about it, called it a “Boilermaker Special.” Sounds fancy, don’t it? They say it’s supposed to be like an old-timey train, from way back when. Represents the, uh, “farming past” of the school, or something like that. I don’t know about all that, but it sure is something to look at.
Purdue Pete, what a name!
Then there’s this Purdue Pete fella. Now, he’s the one you see running around at them games, all dressed up. He ain’t the real mascot, though. He just the one for the sports. Just for the sports, mind you. Not the big shot. Just a fella dressed up.
- Purdue Pete
- Boilermaker Special
- Michigan different
Now, Michigan, they’re different. That’s all I gotta say. They just do things their own way. Like their mascot. It is not like Purdue. They don’t have a train. They don’t have a fella like Pete running around. They got their own way of doing things. Don’t ask me what it is, ’cause I don’t rightly know. Some folks say they have a wolverine, but I ain’t never seen one.
Indiana and Purdue, what is the fuss?
Then you got this whole thing with Indiana and Purdue. They call it a “rivalry.” Like they’re fighting or something. They got this Old Oaken Bucket thing. Sounds silly to me. Why would two schools be fighting over a bucket? I use my bucket for fetching water, not for fighting. They play games against each other, football and such. Folks get all riled up about it. Like it is the most important thing.
Indiana, they are the Hoosiers. Now, that is a funny name. Hoosiers and Boilermakers. What do you think of that? But they are both big schools, I heard. Both in Indiana. So they play each other, and folks make a big deal about it. Like I said, it is a rivalry.
- Old Oaken Bucket
- Hoosiers vs. Boilermakers
- Big rivalry, they say
They play in the Big Ten. Now, that’s a big group of schools. All playing games against each other. Purdue and Michigan are both in it. So they play each other, too. Big Ten football, that is what it is. Football is a big deal, I guess. Lots of folks like to watch it. They get all excited about it. I don’t understand it, but they sure do love it.
One time, my grandson, he tried to explain it all to me. He was talking about touchdowns and field goals and all sorts of things. I just nodded my head and smiled. I did not understand a word he said. But he was so excited, I did not want to stop him. He loves that football.
So this whole Purdue mascot Michigan thing, it is a lot to take in. You got your trains, and your Petes, and your rivalries, and your Big Ten. It is a whole world of its own. A world that I don’t rightly understand, but a world that a lot of folks seem to love.
It’s all about the games, I reckon
I guess it’s like anything else. Folks like what they like. Some folks like knitting, some folks like fishing, some folks like football. And these schools, they like their mascots and their rivalries. It gives them something to cheer for, something to get excited about. Something to talk about. It is like a big party, I guess. A big party with a lot of noise and a lot of people.
Me, I prefer a nice quiet evening on the porch. Maybe with a glass of sweet tea. But hey, to each their own, right? If folks want to get all worked up about Purdue and Michigan and their mascots, then that is their business. I won’t judge. I will just sit here and watch the world go by. And maybe have another biscuit.
So, yeah, Purdue mascot Michigan, it is a thing. A big thing, for some folks. Not for me, but for some folks. And that is just fine. That is just the way the world works. Different folks, different strokes, as they say. Or, as I like to say, different biscuits for different baskets. That is just the way it is. And you know what? That is okay.
