of a surprise, but some of the guys out there on the PGA Tour are actually rocking some pretty cool ink. It’s not something you see all the time, but it’s definitely becoming more common.
You know, in the world of professional golf, where tradition and a certain level of formality are pretty standard, tattoos might not be the first thing you think of. But hey, it’s a new era, and professional golfers are just like the rest of us – they’ve got their own styles and ways of expressing themselves.
Now, I’m not saying that every pro golfer has a sleeve or a back piece, but there are definitely some guys who’ve got some ink going on. And you know, I think it’s pretty cool.
Let’s take a look at some of the guys who have tattoos, and I’ll tell you a little bit about them.
Rory McIlroy
Rory is one of the biggest names in golf, and he’s got a few tattoos that you might spot. There’s one on his left wrist, which is a touching tribute to his grandfather. Then there’s the date “11.09.22,” which marks the date he won his first Grand Slam title at the US Open. It’s a big deal for a golfer to win a Grand Slam, so it’s no surprise that he’d want to commemorate that moment with a tattoo.
Rory Sabbatini
Rory has four visible tattoos on his arms. One on his right bicep appears to be a wave, and he’s got two tribal designs on his right wrist and inside his left bicep. Finally, he has Roman numerals X-XV-MMXIV on his left forearm, which I’m guessing is an anniversary (October 15, 2014).
Sam Bennett
Here’s a young guy who’s making some serious waves in the golf world. He’s got a pretty cool tattoo on his arm, and it’s a reminder of his victory at the 2022 U.S. Amateur championship. That win got him exemptions into the 2023 Masters and 2023 Open, so he’s definitely got some momentum going.
Other Inked Golfers
There are a few other guys out there with tattoos, but they’re a little less visible. I wouldn’t be surprised if more golfers start getting tattoos in the future, as it becomes more accepted in the sport. It’s just a different way to express yourself, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
Let’s break it down in a table:
Golfer | Tattoos | Description |
---|---|---|
Rory McIlroy | Tribute to his grandfather, date of first Grand Slam victory (11.09.22) | He’s got some sentimental ink that’s a reminder of important moments in his life. |
Rory Sabbatini | Wave, tribal designs, Roman numerals (X-XV-MMXIV) | A mix of styles, with a wave, tribal designs, and an anniversary date. |
Sam Bennett | A tattoo commemorating his victory at the 2022 U.S. Amateur Championship | A reminder of his big win, which gave him exemptions into the Masters and Open. |
It’s interesting to think about how tattoos have become more accepted in different sports. Remember LeBron James? He’s got more tattoos than the entire PGA Tour combined, which is just wild!
I’m not saying that tattoos are a necessity, but they’re definitely a way for golfers to express their individuality. And as long as they’re not distracting or offensive, who’s to say they shouldn’t be a part of the game?
What do you think about tattoos in professional golf? Are you surprised to see some of the guys with ink? Tell me what you think!
