Okay, so, I’ve been meaning to put together a proper depth chart for the Maryland Terrapins football team. You know, get a good look at who’s playing where, who the starters are, and all that jazz. I’m a big fan, and honestly, it’s just been bugging me that I didn’t have a clear picture in my head. So, I finally decided to just do it.
First, I started by scouring the web. I mean, there’s gotta be something out there already, right? I checked the official Terrapins website, some sports news sites, and even some fan forums. I found a few articles and some projected depth charts, but nothing felt complete or totally up-to-date. There were bits and pieces here and there, but it was like putting together a puzzle with missing pieces.
Then I thought, “Why not just make my own?” So, I opened up a new spreadsheet and started listing all the players. I pulled the roster from the official site to make sure I got everyone. I knew some of the big names like Stefon Diggs, even though he’s in the NFL now, he’s a Terrapin legend, had to keep him in mind for context. I also had a vague idea about the current team’s rankings, I remembered reading they were around 21st in some ranking. Anyway, I wrote down all the players’ names, their positions, year, and any other info I could find. It was a bit tedious, but hey, I was committed.
Next, I began organizing them by position. Offense first, then defense. This was where it got a bit tricky. I had to rely on those bits and pieces of info I found earlier. Some articles mentioned who was likely to start, like they were saying some guy named Edwards might be the starting quarterback, but he’s not known for having a super strong arm. Other articles talked about position battles and players who were stepping up. I used all that to kind of guess who would be first string, second string, and so on.
It wasn’t perfect, of course. There were some positions where I was really just guessing. And I’m sure things will change throughout the season. Injuries happen, players improve, and coaches make adjustments. But, I figured, it’s better than nothing. At least I had something to work with.
After I had a rough draft of the depth chart, I went back and added some notes. Like, I remembered reading that the team sometimes plays home games in Baltimore, even though their main stadium is in College Park. Little details like that. I also found some articles talking about the team’s schedule and recent results, but I didn’t want to clutter things up too much.
Finally, I took a step back and looked at what I had created. It wasn’t some fancy, professionally designed chart, but it was mine. I felt like I had a much better understanding of the team’s roster and who to watch out for this season.
I’m planning to keep updating it as the season goes on. Maybe I’ll even share it with other Terrapins fans. It’s not perfect, but it’s a start. And for a die-hard fan like me, that’s all that matters. It is really a pleasure to know more about my favorite team, and I’ll surely stick to it!
