Hey everyone, it’s your boy back at it again. Today, I wanna talk about my deep dive into the world of a wrestler named Pete Sanchez. I’ve always been fascinated by old-school wrestling, so I decided to roll up my sleeves and really get into who this guy was.

First, I hit up Wikipedia, like we all do when we’re curious about something. Found out his real name was Peter G. Sanchez, and he was born on April 4, 1943, and passed away on July 27, 2024. He was an American wrestler of Puerto Rican descent and worked for the World Wide Wrestling Federation/World Wrestling Federation from 1963 to 1992. 81 years old, man, that’s a life lived! Also wrestled as Gino Caruso, pretty cool. He started wrestling way back in 1958, in New York City, no less. This was for the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, which later split from the National Wrestling Alliance and became the WWWF. I mean, come on, that’s some classic wrestling history right there.
Next, I started digging around for his matches. I checked out a site called CAGEMATCH. It has a database for wrestlers, and Pete Sanchez was on there, also known as Gino Caruso. It lists all sorts of stuff like his height, weight, and career data. This guy was 5’11 and 238 lbs. He was a singles wrestler, primarily.
Matches and Rivalries
I wanted to see what kind of matches he was in, and who he faced. I found a list of some of his appearances on a site. Some of the matches I saw listed were:
- WWF Superstars of Wrestling Taping #76 in 1988, where he faced Jake Roberts. Lost that one, but still, facing Jake “The Snake” is a big deal.
- WWF Wrestling Challenge Taping #69 in 1987, he took on Greg Valentine. Another loss, but you can tell the guy was in there with some of the greats.
- And another WWF Wrestling Challenge Taping #65 also in 1987.
I also read somewhere that Ric Flair made his WWE debut on March 1, 1976. This was around the time Pete was active, so who knows, maybe they crossed paths behind the scenes. It’s cool to think about these legends being in the same era. Then there’s Pete Dunne, who’s a more recent wrestler. I found out he started training in 2006 and had his first match in 2007. Different times, different styles, but it’s all connected in the wrestling world.
Sadly, I found out that Pete Sanchez had passed away. Bill Apter and Davey O’Hannon announced it on July 27, 2024. Apparently, he had been battling cancer. It’s always tough to hear about these guys passing away, but it makes you appreciate their contributions to the business even more.
So, that’s my little adventure into learning about Pete Sanchez. It’s amazing how much history there is in professional wrestling. Every wrestler has a story, and it’s always a good time digging into them. It reminds me why I love this stuff so much. Stay tuned for more, folks!
