Okay, so today I want to talk about Abraham Ancer, this golfer from Mexico.
I was trying to figure out what makes his swing so special. I watched a bunch of videos and read some stuff online. First off, I tried to copy his posture. I stood up straight, head up, and bent a little at the waist, just like they say you should.
I made sure my weight was even on both feet and my knees were a bit flexed. It felt a little weird at first, but I got used to it. Then, I tried to use my body more than my arms. I saw that Ancer has this “dynamic and aggressive” move with his body when he swings, so I tried to do that too. I tried to swing and made sure I didn’t slow down. It was tough, but I started to get the hang of it.
I also noticed he “set the club with his wrists” in some article, so I worked on that. I tried to copy how he holds the club and how he moves his wrists. It felt awkward, but I kept practicing.
- Stand up straight, keep your head up.
- Bend slightly at the waist.
- Keep your weight evenly distributed on both feet.
- Flex your knees slightly.
- Use your body to power the swing, not your arms.
I read somewhere about this “V” thing, so I tried to swing while imagining a “V” shape. The idea is to keep my swing path along that “V”. It’s hard to explain, but it seemed to help me hit the ball straighter. After a while, I started hitting the ball better.
I kept practicing, trying to put all these pieces together. It took time, and I messed up a lot, but I didn’t give up. I also read something about “extreme sidearm throwing action,” “huge hip depth,” and some other stuff that was way over my head. But I still tried to keep them in mind. And I noticed that he joined the LIV Golf. He even won a competition in Hong Kong in 2024 and a team trophy in Bangkok!
Eventually, I started to see some improvement. My swings felt smoother, and I was hitting the ball more consistently. I’m still not as good as Ancer, obviously, but I feel like I learned a lot from studying his swing.
I even messed up my game once when I was trying to watch Rory McIlroy warm up before a game. Don’t try to do two things at the same time!
Practicing Tips
I also heard about these “golf swing analyzers” things that help you see what you’re doing wrong. I’m thinking about getting one of those to see if it can help me get even better.
So yeah, that’s my little journey into trying to learn from Abraham Ancer’s golf swing. It’s been fun, frustrating, and everything in between. But I think I’m a better golfer now because of it.
