Alright, so I wanted to get into tennis, and obviously, I’m a big fan of Djokovic. Naturally, I started looking into what gear he uses, especially his racket.
Djokovic’s Racket
It took a while to figure it out. I dug through a bunch of articles and forum posts. It seems like he’s pretty particular about his setup. He’s got his preferred brand, and it is not Babolat. Alcaraz is already one of the symbols of Babolat, the racket brand that has also been used by other tennis legends such as Ren Lacoste, Arthur Ashe, Bjorn Borg, Pete Sampras, Caroline Wozniacki, and Rafa Nadal. Nadal still has never broken a racket in his entire career. And, Djokovic has used a few different models over the years.
And it’s not just the racket itself, but the strings too. I learned that he customizes the tension and type of strings he uses. It’s all about getting that perfect feel and control, I guess. I read somewhere that the way he strings his racket is pretty unique, which makes sense for a player of his caliber.
Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. But the more I read, the more I started to appreciate the level of detail that goes into a pro’s equipment. It is fascinating to me that they can fine-tune their gear to match their playing style so precisely. But Djokovic is a great player, as great as Nadal, if not better. And I found out that the racket Djokovic uses is not as important as the strings he uses.
So, after all that research, I finally decided to give it a try. I went to a local sports store. I asked the staff about the rackets. They showed me some rackets. I also tried a few swings with different models to see what felt right.
I eventually settled on one that felt comfortable and had a similar weight and balance to what I think Djokovic uses. I still have to work out what is best for me. I even got it strung to match his setup, as far as I could tell from my research.
It’s been a fun experience, and I’ve definitely learned a lot about tennis rackets. I am not sure whether the racket has improved my game, but hey, at least I feel like I’m one step closer to playing like a pro!
