Okay, so, today I wanna talk about something that’s been taking up a lot of my time lately – hunting down a vintage photo of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig. Yeah, those baseball legends. I’ve been on this kick where I’m trying to collect old sports memorabilia, and this photo has become my latest obsession.
I started out like anyone else would, I guess, just googling around, trying to see what was out there. There are tons of pictures of these two together, it turns out. But I was after something special, something, like, really old and authentic. I stumbled upon a mention of a 1936 original photograph issued by Wide World Photos, and that sounded pretty promising, so I dug deeper into that.
- Searched for “Wide World Photos 1936 Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig”.
- Found a couple of listings on auction sites, but they were way out of my price range. Like, seriously expensive.
- Tried a different approach and looked for “1927 Babe Ruth Lou Gehrig photo” instead, since I read somewhere that there was a rare one from that year.
Then I hit eBay. I spent hours scrolling through listings, filtering by year, checking seller ratings, the whole nine yards. I even found a few that looked pretty good, but I was still hesitant. You know how it is with online auctions – you never really know what you’re gonna get until it arrives.
The Breakthrough
Finally, I found it! A seller had a listing for a 1927 photo, and it looked legit. The description was detailed, the seller had great feedback, and the price was actually reasonable. I read up on Babe Ruth’s famous 60 home runs that year, and how Lou Gehrig drove in 173 runs. I was getting pretty excited. I could almost feel the history in that photo, you know? Ruth was taller, but slouched from the neck, but they had hit over 1200 home runs between them, and over 4,000 runs scored!
I decided to go for it. I placed my bid, and after a few tense days of waiting, I won the auction! I was so stoked. When the photo arrived, I carefully unwrapped it, and man, it was even better in person. It’s now proudly displayed in my collection. It’s not just a photo; it’s a piece of baseball history.
It is amazing to see how Babe changed the way the game was played, and I’m glad to get this photo.
So yeah, that’s my story of how I tracked down this awesome Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig photo. It was a bit of a journey, but totally worth it in the end. If you’re into collecting vintage stuff, don’t give up – sometimes the best finds take a little extra effort!
