Okay, so I’ve been diving deep into the world of tennis lately, and let me tell you, Hsieh Su-wei’s story is something else. I mean, this woman is a legend, and I had to dig into her career, like, really get into it.
I started by watching a bunch of her matches. I went back and watched some of her older stuff, especially her Grand Slam wins, you know, like Wimbledon 2013. It was so cool watching her play back then, all those tricky shots, just amazing! And then I moved on to her more recent wins, like the French Open in 2023. Seeing her play in 2023, it was like she has been getting better with age!
Then I went down the rabbit hole of stats and figures. Did you know she’s won, like, 35 doubles titles on the WTA Tour? Thirty-five! And she’s got a bunch of singles titles too, and all those ITF Circuit titles, it’s crazy! I spent hours just going through all her records, trying to piece everything together. She got 7 Grand Slam doubles titles!
- Wimbledon 2013
- French Open 2014
- Wimbledon 2019
- Wimbledon 2021
- French Open 2023
- Wimbledon 2023
- Australian Open 2024
I also started reading articles about her, and there were so many. I mean, she’s beaten some of the biggest names in tennis. I found this one match where she beat the world No. 1, Simona Halep, back in 2018. It was such an upset, and I was like, “Who is this woman?” She even beat Johanna Konta when Konta was ranked No. 8 in the world. I watched that match too, and it was just incredible. She also got her mixed doubles title!
The Unconventional Path
One thing that really stood out to me was that she’s done it all without an official sponsor. Like, how is that even possible in today’s world? She’s always done things her way, and it’s really inspiring. She has never had an official sponsor, that is wild!
I even read about her coach, Paul McNamee, which I thought was pretty cool. Her story is truly special, she got so many achievements! And I heard she said that the Australian Open 2024 is going to be her last singles Grand Slam tournament. I can’t wait to see what she does next. I feel like I’ve become a real Hsieh Su-wei expert after all this, haha! It was a total deep dive, but so worth it.
