Okay, so I was watching this golf tournament on TV the other day, and it got me thinking about Phil Mickelson. That guy’s been around forever, right? I mean, I remember watching him when I was a kid, and he’s still out there swinging away. But it got me wondering, will he ever snag another birdie?
So, I started digging around, trying to figure out what’s been going on with him lately. Turns out, he’s had a bit of a rough patch. I saw this one tournament where he missed a bunch of easy putts. Like, seriously short ones that even I could probably make… maybe. He missed a short one on the 14th hole, then messed up the 15th and 17th, even had a chance on the 16th and blew it. It was painful to watch, honestly.
Then I found out his longtime caddie, Tim, is calling it quits. Apparently, Tim wants to spend more time with his family, which is cool. Phil made a nice post about it, saying how they shared some great times together. It’s gotta be weird for Phil, though, after all those years with Tim on the bag.
Then, there’s the whole thing about him jumping ship to that new LIV Golf tour. You know he got some flak from Tiger Woods about that. Seemed like some drama there for sure. They’re getting old, you know, maybe too old for that drama stuff.
After all that, I decided to check out some stats. Look, I’m no golf expert, I just hit the ball and hope for the best. But I found some numbers that made things a bit clearer. Apparently, the average pro golfer gets a birdie on like 15-25% of their holes. And these are the pros! The best in the world! Even the average golfer out of 200 is over 3.65 per round. That’s some serious skill. Then I looked at my own game and, well, let’s just say I’m not exactly racking up the birdies, maybe I should practice more.
Finally, I stumbled across some gossip about Phil and his old caddie. Turns out, there was some money involved, something about Phil promising to pay Tim a cut of his winnings but never actually doing it? Sounds messy. Anyway, the whole thing got me thinking. Mickelson’s getting older, he’s had some ups and downs, and now he’s on this new tour.
- He missed some easy shots.
- His caddie quit.
- He joined LIV Golf.
- There’s that story about money drama.
Will he get another birdie? I don’t know, man. It’s tough to say. But I’ll be watching, that’s for sure. He’s a legend, even if he’s not winning like he used to.
I went out to the course myself this past weekend, you know, to see if I could channel some of that Mickelson magic. Let’s just say, I didn’t have my best day. But hey, at least I got some fresh air. And I did manage to snag one birdie! Maybe there’s hope for me yet. Who knows, maybe there’s still hope for Mickelson, too. We’ll just have to wait and see.
