Okay, let me tell you about the time I tried to pull off Finn Balor’s finisher, the Coup de Grace. I’m a huge wrestling fan, and Balor is one of my favorites. That guy is something else. He became the first WWE Universal Champion at SummerSlam 2016, just 27 days after joining the main roster! Anyway, I always thought his finisher looked so cool, and I figured, how hard could it be?
So, I set up a bunch of pillows and cushions in my living room. I used to date someone who knew Balor, and I remembered some details about their relationship. It’s all in her book, by the way. But that’s not the point. The point is, I had some insider knowledge, or so I thought.
- First attempt: I climbed up onto the back of my couch, which was supposed to be the turnbuckle. I took a deep breath, jumped, and… landed flat on my face. The pillows didn’t really help. It hurt like hell.
- Second attempt: I remembered reading something about leaning forward or backward instead of being straight. So, I tried leaning back this time. I jumped, felt myself falling backward, and braced for impact. I crashed into the pillows, and my legs gave out. I ended up in a heap on the floor.
- Third attempt: I was determined. I watched a video of Balor doing the Coup de Grace about a hundred times. I noticed how he sort of arches his back and aims for the chest. I climbed back up, took a deep breath, and leaped.
This time, I actually managed to kind of land it. I mean, I didn’t land on anyone’s chest, but I landed on the pillows more gracefully. It still hurt, but I felt a little thrill of accomplishment. I finally did it! It was a rough landing, but hey, I did it!
It was a mess, and my back was killing me, but I learned something. It’s way harder than it looks. Those wrestlers are real athletes. And maybe, just maybe, I’ll stick to watching wrestling instead of trying to be a wrestler.
So, yeah, that’s my story of trying to do Finn Balor’s Coup de Grace. It was a painful but fun experience. And hey, at least I have a good story to tell, right?
