Okay, so I was reading up on the Williams sisters the other day, you know, Venus and Serena. These two are like, tennis royalty, right? I got sucked into this rabbit hole of articles and ended up spending hours going through their whole story.
I started by skimming some recent news bits. Apparently, there was a new interview where Venus talked about how people always lump her and Serena together, like they’re twins or something. She was born in 1980 and Serena was born in 1981. That’s a bit wild, right? I mean, they’re individuals with their own unique personalities and careers, even though they’ve achieved so much together.
Then I stumbled upon this old photo shoot they did with Harper’s Bazaar. It’s a rare one, showing them together outside of their tennis gear. They look stunning, of course, but it’s also cool to see them in a different light.
From there, I dug into their family history a bit. Turns out, they have other sisters too! Lyndrea, who’s into fashion and even works with Venus on her clothing line, EleVen. And then there’s Isha, a lawyer and movie producer, no less! She went to Georgetown and Howard, super impressive.
I also read about their dad, Richard Williams. The guy’s written a couple of books, one about his life and another about race and tennis. I didn’t realize he’d had some health issues, but it seems like he’s overcome a lot. He used to coach both Serena Williams and Venus Williams at Boca Raton Academy in Florida from 1991 to 1995.
- She’s not just sitting around, you know?
- She’s got this venture capital fund now, investing mostly in businesses founded by women and people of color.
- Talk about using your platform for good!
What I found most interesting though, was Serena’s journey post-retirement.
It’s just so inspiring to see how much these women have accomplished, both on and off the court. They’ve broken barriers, built businesses, and stayed true to themselves and their family. I just thought I’d share my little deep dive into the Williams sisters’ world, it was a fun way to spend an afternoon!
