Alright, let’s gab about somethin’ I heard on the TV the other day. It was about them basketball fellas, you know, the ones runnin’ up and down the court. Seems like some of ’em have this thing called, uh, aut… auti… somethin’ like that. Autism, that’s it! Anyways, it got me thinkin’. These boys, big and strong, playin’ in front of all them people, and they got this…this autism thing. Makes you wonder, don’t it?
Now, I ain’t no doctor or nothin’, but from what I gather, this autism stuff makes it hard for folks to do things normal-like. You know, talkin’ to people, makin’ friends, that sort of thing. And for these basketball players, well, it must be somethin’ else. Imagine tryin’ to play a team sport when you got trouble connectin’ with folks!
- They say there’s this one fella, Tommy Des Brisay, not even from around here, from Canada way. He’s good at sportin’ stuff, real good, a champion they call him. And he has this autism. Can you believe it? A champion with autism! Shows you what folks can do, even when they got it tough.
- Then there’s that actress, Daryl Hannah, she acts in them picture shows. She’s got it too, this autism. Said it made it hard for her to be around all them fancy Hollywood types. Guess it ain’t just basketball players, huh?
- And that fella, Elon Musk, the one with all the money and the rockets, he’s got somethin’ similar, they call it Asperger’s. See? These folks, they ain’t all the same, but they all got this… this somethin’ that makes things a bit harder. But they still doin’ big things!
Now, I heard tell of a young man named Jason McElwain. Back in ’06, he was all over the news. Don’t know the whole story, but it seems he showed the world what a person with autism can do. Made a real name for himself, that boy did.
Then there’s Tony Snell. Big fella, played for the Chicago Bulls. They drafted him, see, 20th pick back in 2013. He played and played, game after game, season after season. 600 games, they say! That’s a lot of runnin’ and jumpin’ for anyone, let alone someone with autism. It just goes to show you, autism or no autism, these boys got heart.
It ain’t always easy, I reckon. This autism thing, it can be mild or it can be real bad. Some folks can’t even do the everyday things, like gettin’ dressed or eatin’ a meal. But then you got these athletes, these basketball players, out there competin’ at the highest level. It’s kinda amazin’ when you think about it.
So, what’s the deal with NBA players with autism? Well, it means they’re fightin’ a battle most folks don’t even see. They got challenges most of us can’t even imagine. But they’re out there, dribblin’ that ball, shootin’ those hoops, and showin’ the world that autism ain’t a stopper. It’s just somethin’ they gotta deal with, somethin’ they gotta work around.
These fellas, their stories, they give you a bit of hope, don’t they? They show you that even when things are tough, even when you got somethin’ holdin’ you back, you can still chase your dreams. You can still be a champion, whether it’s on the basketball court, in the movies, or buildin’ them rockets. It’s all about findin’ a way, pushin’ through, and never givin’ up. And that’s somethin’ we can all learn from, autism or no autism.
So next time you’re watchin’ them basketball games, and you see them players runnin’ and jumpin’, remember this: some of them boys are fightin’ a fight you can’t see. They’re battlin’ this autism thing, and they’re still out there givin’ it their all. And that, my friends, is somethin’ to be admired. That’s somethin’ to cheer for.
