This here talk ’bout who’s the best basketball player, it’s been goin’ on forever, ain’t it? Some folks yell Jordan, others holler that James fella. Me? I seen ’em all play, in my time, on that there TV box. They all got somethin’ special, I reckon.
That Jordan, now, he was somethin’ else. Flew through the air like he had wings, that one. Six times he won them big NBA championships with them Chicago Bulls. Six! And five times they called him the best in the whole dang league, that MVP thing. Five times! Hard to argue with that, I suppose. He just, score, score, score all the time. Average of 33.4 points per game in postseason, I heard. That’s a lot, you know.
- Six championships, that’s a lot, ain’t it?
- Five MVP awards, that’s somethin’ too.
- He sure could fly, that Jordan.
Then you got this LeBron James. Big fella, strong as an ox. He been playin’ forever, seems like. And he ain’t slowin’ down none. He’s got all sorts of records, this one. Passed some guy named Kareem for somethin’ called “Most All-NBA selections”. Don’t rightly know what that means, but it sounds important, don’t it? He got those MVP too, four of them, they say.
And then there was that Kobe fella, bless his soul. Passed away too soon. He was a good one, too. Five championships, they say. He was a real worker, that one. Always practicin’, always gettin’ better. But some folks say he ain’t up there with Jordan and James, ’cause he didn’t have the same, uh, achievements. I don’t know ’bout all that. He could sure play, I tell ya.
- LeBron, he’s strong, like a bull.
- He’s got all them records.
- He ain’t never gonna stop playin, I reckon.
This whole basketball GOAT thing, it’s like askin’ which is better, apple pie or peach cobbler. They’re both good, just different. Michael Jordan, he was like lightnin’, quick and flashy. LeBron, he’s like a train, just keeps on comin’. Kobe, he was like a craftsman, always workin’ on his tools. They all got their own way of doin’ things.
I heard some folks sayin’ Jordan was the best ’cause he scored more than anyone. Well, that’s one way to look at it, I guess. But basketball ain’t just ’bout scorin’, is it? It’s ’bout passin’ and reboundin’ and playin’ defense and all that other stuff. LeBron, he does all them things, and he does ’em good.
Now, who’s the best? Who’s this GOAT everyone’s talkin’ ’bout? Well, that’s for you to decide, I reckon. Me? I’m just glad I got to see ’em all play. They was all somethin’ special, each and every one of ’em. They sure made that old TV of mine worth watchin’.
This whole debate ’bout who’s the best, it ain’t never gonna end. There’s always gonna be someone new comin’ along, someone who can jump higher or shoot better or run faster. That’s just the way it is. But these fellas, Jordan, James, and that Kobe, they set the bar pretty high. It’s gonna take a mighty special player to jump over that.
Five NBA players, someone said. Well, there have been many good players. But these fellas are talked about all the time, ain’t they? Must be somethin’ to that.
- Jordan, he scored a lot.
- James, he does it all.
- Kobe, he worked hard.
In my time, I seen a lot of things. Seen a lot of changes. But one thing that ain’t never changed is folks love for basketball. And they love talkin’ ’bout who’s the best. It is a good game. It is fun to watch. They run and jump, it is exciting.
This basketball GOAT talk, it’s like pickin’ your favorite cow. They all give milk, they all chew their cud, but some folks just got a favorite. And that’s alright. Just don’t go tellin’ me my favorite ain’t no good, ya hear? They all got somethin’ to offer, just like them basketball players. They all play good, right?
