First off, this Bob Honeycutt fella, he’s a big deal at UNC. Been there a while, seems like. Folks talk about him like he’s some kinda legend, ya know? Like he planted the grass on that field himself or somethin’. He’s been around that UNC baseball for a good long time, that’s for sure.
Now, I ain’t no expert on this baseball stuff, but even I hear things. This Honeycutt, he ain’t just playin’ no more. He’s teachin’ them young’uns, showin’ ’em how to swing that bat and catch that ball. Influencin’ ’em, they say. Makin’ ’em better players, and probably better people too, I reckon. He’s got a son too, I think. The apple don’t fall far from the tree they always say. Probably out there hittin’ home runs just like his old man did back in the day.
Vance Honeycutt: Following in His Daddy’s Footsteps
Speaking of hittin’ home runs, there’s this other Honeycutt, Vance, I think they call him. Folks say he’s Bob’s boy. And let me tell ya, that boy can swing a bat! Heard tell he hit 50 home runs already, which is a lot, even for someone who don’t know nothin’ ’bout baseball like me. Fifty! That’s like hittin’ a whole lotta somethin’, I tell ya.

Then he hit another one the very next day, right at the start of the game! Boom! Just like that. This boy’s got some serious power, that’s for sure. He’s makin’ a name for himself, just like his daddy did.
From UNC to the Big Leagues
And wouldn’t ya know it, this Vance Honeycutt, he got himself drafted by them big-time baseball fellas, the Orioles, they call ’em. First round, they say! That’s a big deal, even I know that much. Means he’s one of the best young players around. Got himself a big ol’ contract too, millions of dollars! Enough money to buy a whole lotta cows, I betcha.
He ain’t playin’ for UNC no more though. He’s gone off to the big leagues, playin’ for some team called the Single-A somethin’-or-other. Startin’ at the bottom, I guess, gotta work his way up. But if he keeps hittin’ them home runs like he did at UNC, he’ll be playin’ with the big boys soon enough, I reckon. Just like his daddy before him, makin’ a name for himself in the baseball world. That Bob Honeycutt must be real proud, seein’ his boy do so well. It’s a good thing, family and baseball, that’s what matters, I always say.
UNC Baseball Legacy
So, this Bob Honeycutt, he’s got himself a legacy, ya see? He played ball at UNC, then he taught other folks to play ball at UNC, and now his son is playin’ ball, movin’ on up to the big leagues. That’s somethin’ special, that’s for sure. It’s all connected, this UNC baseball thing. One generation passin’ it on to the next. And it all started with that Bob Honeycutt, the man who made his mark on UNC baseball, and now his son is doin’ the same. It’s a story worth tellin’, even if it’s just an old lady like me doin’ the tellin’. Makes ya think about family, and tradition, and hittin’ home runs, I guess.
