Well, well, well, if ya didn’t hear, there was a big ol’ fight between Brock Lesnar and Mark Hunt. It all went down back in 2016, on July 9th, at the big ol’ UFC 200 event. Let me tell ya, it was somethin’ to watch. Now, Brock, he’s a big guy, real strong, wrestlin’ background. He’s been around in WWE and then he came back to UFC. As for Mark Hunt, well, he’s a tough fella too, with them heavy hands and a lot of knockout power.
So, let’s set the scene a bit. Brock Lesnar, all muscled up and ready to show his stuff, went into that fight against Mark Hunt like he was lookin’ for a big ol’ payday. And, well, that’s pretty much what he got, ’cause after the fight, the man walked away with $2.5 million for his time in the octagon. Can you believe that? $2.5 million for a fight, just like that. I reckon I’d be happy just to get a few hundred bucks for a long day of work in the garden!
Now, the fight itself? Well, it didn’t end up like a lot of folks expected. Brock, he didn’t go in there swingin’ fists like Mark Hunt. Instead, Brock kept a safe distance, used his wrestling, and just took Mark down to the ground, holdin’ him there. Some folks thought that Brock would try to stand and trade punches with Mark, but that wasn’t the case. No, Brock kept his distance and wrestled his way to a unanimous decision. The judges gave him the win, 29-27, and that was that.
Mark Hunt, bless his heart, was disappointed. He’s used to knockin’ folks out cold, but Brock just kept him on the mat most of the time. Hunt couldn’t really do much with his punches, ‘cause every time he’d try, Brock was right there, takin’ him down. And that’s what got Brock the win. But let’s be clear, it wasn’t exactly a pretty win. It was more like Brock just played it safe, and I reckon that was the smartest thing he could’ve done.
But after the fight, things took a real sour turn. You see, after UFC 200, it came out that Brock Lesnar had tested positive for a couple of banned substances. Yep, you heard that right. Brock had been takin’ some things that were against the rules, and the powers that be over at USADA and the Nevada Athletic Commission didn’t take too kindly to it. They slapped him with a one-year suspension, and that really put a stain on what was supposed to be a big return for the guy.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ Brock was cheatin’, but you gotta wonder how it all went down, don’t ya? He’s got all that muscle and strength, but then there’s the little matter of the positive test. That suspension came down hard, and I reckon it made a lot of folks think twice about that big ol’ win he got over Mark Hunt. Some say the win was tainted because of the substances, and I can’t say I blame ‘em.
But look, the fight itself was still one for the books. You don’t see many people able to handle Mark Hunt like that. Even though it wasn’t the most exciting fight, it showed that Brock’s wrestling is somethin’ to be reckoned with. He didn’t need to stand and bang with Mark to win, he just needed to do what he does best, and that’s take folks down to the ground. And that’s exactly what he did.
As for Mark Hunt, well, I reckon he ain’t too happy about how things went down. He’s a tough guy, and all he wanted was to get in there and land a knockout punch. But Brock just didn’t let him. It wasn’t fair to Mark, no, but that’s how the game goes sometimes. You get in that ring, and you never know how it’s gonna turn out.
And that’s about all I got to say on that. Brock Lesnar got the win, but it came with some controversy. Mark Hunt didn’t get the knockout he was hopin’ for, and the whole thing left a bad taste in a lot of folks’ mouths. But in the end, both men walked away with somethin’. Brock got his $2.5 million, and Mark Hunt, well, he’s still got that punchin’ power, if not the win.
So, what can we take away from all this?
- First off, Brock Lesnar knows how to win a fight, even if it ain’t the prettiest win.
- Mark Hunt still packs a punch, but sometimes it’s just not enough to beat a wrestler like Brock.
- And, lastly, even the best fighters can run into trouble when they don’t play by the rules. Brock’s suspension was a big ol’ reminder of that.
All in all, it was a fight that had a little bit of everything—good wrestling, tough punches, and some drama after the bell rang. Ain’t that just the way these big fights go sometimes?
