Well now, lemme tell ya, that fight between Canelo Alvarez and Jermell Charlo sure got the whole world talkin’! It happened back on the 30th of September, 2023, out there in Las Vegas. They called it the “Undisputed vs. Undisputed” match, and folks weren’t kiddin’ when they said it was a big deal. Both of ’em had all the belts, ya see? Canelo, that Mexican fighter, was holdin’ onto his undisputed Super Middleweight title, while Charlo, well, he was the undisputed champ in his own weight class too, so it was a real showdown of champions.
Now, before this fight, Canelo had just come off a win over John Ryder back in May 2023, and there was talk of him goin’ up against other big names like David Benavidez and even his old rival, Gennady Golovkin. But Charlo was the one who ended up standin’ across the ring from him. And let me tell ya, people were wonderin’ if Canelo still had it in him, what with talk about him slowin’ down and maybe losin’ a step or two.
Well, when the fight started, both fighters were real cautious-like. Ain’t nobody wanna make the first mistake, y’know? But after the second round, it was pretty clear that Canelo was settin’ the pace. He got Charlo backed up into them ropes, and it wasn’t lookin’ too good for Charlo from there on. I reckon Charlo tried his best, but Canelo just kept comin’ at him, like a freight train. Charlo did his best to stay on his feet, but he was gettin’ hit with some big shots, and that made the whole crowd get louder and louder.
By the end of the 12 rounds, it wasn’t much of a contest. The judges scored it unanimous for Canelo, with two of ‘em callin’ it 119-108, and the other one goin’ 118-109. That’s a big ol’ win, don’t ya think? Charlo, poor fella, just couldn’t handle what Canelo was throwin’ at him. He kept takin’ those punches, but it looked like he was just tryin’ to last until the bell rang, not really fightin’ to win. He was hurtin’ pretty bad, but he did make it to the end.
Now, Canelo, after the fight, he wasn’t shy about tellin’ folks who the real champ was. He said, “I’m the best. Who’s better?” And I reckon, after that fight, it’s hard to argue with him. Ain’t nobody beatin’ Canelo right now. He’s proven time and again that he’s at the top of his game. People had been talkin’ about his decline, but he sure shut ‘em up with that performance. He looked like the same old Canelo we all know and love.
Charlo, on the other hand, well, he didn’t walk away with the win, but he did get some money out of it. I heard he walked away with about $3 million, though there was some talk he was supposed to get more if he’d fought that Tszyu feller before he got injured. But even though the money’s nice, it don’t mean much when you lose in front of all those people. And ya know, his twin brother, Jermall Charlo, was in the crowd watchin’ him. Even though they had some bad blood between ‘em, Jermall made sure to show up to support his brother. I guess family’s family, even if they’re goin’ through rough times.
Now, that fight took place at the T-Mobile Arena, and I reckon it was packed to the brim. There were a whole lotta people watchin’, and the excitement was buzzin’ in the air. The undercard had some fights too, but ain’t nobody really cared much about that once Canelo and Charlo stepped into the ring. Folks were more concerned about who was gonna come out on top in this big ol’ showdown.
So, what does this mean for Canelo and Charlo? Well, Canelo’s sittin’ mighty pretty now with all them titles still in his hands. As for Charlo, I reckon he’s gotta go back to the drawin’ board and figure out where he goes from here. Ain’t no shame in losin’ to the best, but now he’s gotta decide if he wants to keep pushin’ forward or if he’ll call it a day and retire. Ain’t nobody can say he didn’t give it his all, but sometimes, it just ain’t enough.
But that’s the way boxing goes, ain’t it? You win some, you lose some, but at the end of the day, Canelo’s still the king of the Super Middleweight division. And with that kind of performance, I don’t see anyone takin’ his throne anytime soon. But like they always say, in boxing, you never know what’s comin’ next. Maybe we’ll see Charlo come back stronger, or maybe someone else will rise up to challenge Canelo. Only time will tell, but one thing’s for sure: boxing ain’t goin’ anywhere, and Canelo Alvarez is still sittin’ at the top.
