Alright, so I’ve been messing around with this new game, Wuthering Waves, and my old H81 motherboard. Yeah, I know, it’s ancient, but hey, it’s what I got. I wanted to see if this old rig could handle the game, even at the lowest settings. So, I figured I’d share my little experiment.

The Setup
First things first, I dusted off the old beast. I mean, literally, there was a lot of dust. I’m talking about an Intel Core i5-4460, 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and a GTX 750 Ti. It’s pretty basic, even for a few years ago.
- CPU: Intel Core i5-4460
- RAM: 8GB DDR3
- GPU: GTX 750 Ti
- Motherboard: H81 (some generic brand, I don’t even remember)
- Storage: 1TB, Sata3 SSD
Getting it Running
Downloading the game was the easy part. Installing it, though… that took a while. I mean, this SSD, isn’t the newest. Once it was finally installed, I fired it up. The first launch? Expect some stuttering, there is a lot of things needed to compile.
Went straight into the settings. Everything, and I mean everything, was set to low or off. Resolution? Dialed it down as far as it could go. I was basically playing a pixelated dream, but hey, that’s what I expected.
The Actual Gameplay
Surprisingly, it ran! Not great, mind you. I was getting around 20-30 FPS in the open world, dipping lower in some areas with lots of enemies or effects. Combat was… challenging. Let’s just say I had to rely more on dodging than I normally would. Timing was everything because a single frame drop could mean getting smacked by a boss.
The open world was a bit of a slideshow at times, especially when running through grassy areas or when new areas were loading. But, it was playable. I could still do quests, explore (slowly), and enjoy the story. I even managed to take down a few bosses, though it took a lot of patience and a few deaths.
Tweaks and Tricks
I did a few things to squeeze out a bit more performance. I closed every other program running in the background. Chrome? Gone. Discord? See ya. Anything that could possibly use resources was shut down. I even messed with some Nvidia Control Panel settings, prioritizing performance over quality.
I also found that keeping the area around my PC cool helped a bit. I literally had a fan blowing on the case to keep the temperatures down. Every little bit helps, right?
Final Thoughts
So, can you play Wuthering Waves on an H81 motherboard and an old setup? Technically, yes. Should you? Well, that depends on your tolerance for low frame rates and potato graphics. It’s not going to be a pretty experience, but if you’re desperate to play and don’t have any other options, it’s doable. Just don’t expect miracles. I’m probably going to upgrade soon, though. This was a fun experiment, but I think it’s time to let this old rig retire.
