Alright, listen up y’all, let’s talk about them folks who yap on TV during the Alabama game, ya know, the commentators. I ain’t too fancy with words, so I’ll just tell it like it is.
So, sometimes you got this fella, Joe Tessitore, and that Jordan Rodgers, chatterin’ away on ABC. Joe, he’s been doin’ this for a long time, so I guess he knows his stuff. But sometimes, I swear, they talk so much I can’t even hear the game good! They just keep jabberin’ on and on.
Then there’s this other time, it was Chris Fowler, Kirk Herbstreit, and that Holly Rowe gal. They seem to like callin’ the Alabama games a lot, this was like the third time this season, I think. Fowler, he’s the one tellin’ ya what’s happenin’ on the field, and Herbstreit, he’s like, explainin’ stuff. Holly, well, she’s down there on the sidelines, talkin’ to the players and coaches. They’re alright, I guess, but sometimes they get a little too excited for my taste.
- Play-by-Play Announcer: This fella tells ya who’s got the ball and what’s happenin’ on the field. Like, “He’s runnin’ to the left! He got tackled! It’s a first down!” You know, that kinda stuff.
- Color Commentator: This guy, he’s supposed to be the expert. He tells ya why the players are doin’ what they’re doin’, and what they should be doin’ different. Sometimes he makes sense, sometimes he don’t.
- Sideline Reporter: This is usually a woman. She’s down there on the field, talkin’ to the players and coaches. She tells ya if anyone’s hurt, or what the coach is thinkin’. It’s kinda like gossip, but about football.
Now, sometimes the game ain’t even on the regular TV. Like that time they played Wisconsin, it was on FOX TV. I had to fiddle around with the clicker to find it. And then they said somethin’ about watchin’ it on somethin’ called “Fubo TV.” Sounded like a bunch of hooey to me. I just wanna watch my game, I don’t need all that fancy stuff.
And then there was this other game, against Mercer, I think it was. It was on somethin’ called SECN+. Never even heard of it before! And the folks callin’ the game, they were new too. First time they ever called an Alabama game. They were alright, I guess, but they didn’t know the players like them other fellas do.
And that time they played against Georgia, it was back on ABC with Chris Fowler again. It was a big game, they said it was a top-five showdown. That means both teams were real good, I reckon. Fowler, he was yappin’ away as usual, tellin’ us every little thing that happened.
Honestly, sometimes I just wanna mute them all and just watch the game. They talk too much, and sometimes they don’t even know what they’re talkin’ about. But I guess they gotta have someone up there in the booth, tellin’ folks what’s goin’ on. It’s just part of the game, I suppose.
But hey, as long as Alabama wins, I don’t care too much who’s doin’ the talkin’. Roll Tide!
So next time you’re watchin’ the game, pay attention to them commentators. See if you can figure out what they’re sayin’, and if they know what they’re talkin’ about. And if they get too annoying, just turn ’em down and enjoy the game. That’s what I do.
