Well, that New York Times thing, they got games. Crossword, they call it. You fill in the little boxes. Like them word search things, but harder, I reckon. This one clue, “throw out as from a game”, got folks all riled up. It is not a easy word. Some folks think too much, make it harder than it is, you know?
That crossword, it ain’t like the usual games we know. No cards, no dice, just words. And this “throw out” thing, well, it’s like getting kicked out, sent away. Like when you play cards, and you do something wrong, you’re out. Same idea, I guess, but this is just for a word in that game. Not a real game, more like thinking game. Five letters, it needs. Short and sweet, like a good pie. Not too much, not too less.
Throw Out, Like in That NYT Thing
They say it was in the NYT Mini Crossword on December 5. Lots of folks was trying to get it. That’s what they do, they try and try till they get it. Like a stubborn mule, they won’t give up. They think that is very important. I don’t know why they care about that so much.
This “throw out” thing, it’s like when you’re playing, and you mess up. You’re out! Gone! No more playing for you. Maybe you cheated, maybe you just weren’t good enough. Doesn’t matter, you’re out. It is not fun when you are thrown out. But it is just a game, so it is OK. But someone takes that too serious.
- First, you see the clue, “throw out as from a game”.
- Then, you think real hard. What’s it mean?
- Five letters, gotta fit in those boxes.
- You try different words, see what fits.
- Finally, you get it! You win!
It ain’t easy, that crossword. But some people, they like it. They like the challenge. Me, I’d rather be doing other things. Like tending my garden, maybe baking a pie. But to each their own, I say. I don’t play that crossword game. I play the real game.
Why Folks Play That Crossword
Some folks, they say it keeps their minds sharp. Like a knife, you gotta keep it sharp or it ain’t no good. They say it helps them learn new words. They think that is good to keep healthy. I think it is just a game. I don’t need to learn new words.
Others, they just like the puzzle. They like figuring things out. Like a mystery, they gotta solve it. And they need to think very hard to get the answer. The key word is very important. They need to find the key word. And they will be happy.
And some, they just do it ’cause everyone else is doing it. Like sheep, they just follow the flock. They want to be one of the people. They don’t want to be left out. So they do the same thing. I think that is silly.
But hey, who am I to judge? If it makes them happy, let them play their little word game. It ain’t hurting nobody, I guess. If they are happy, that is all that matters. They can play their game.
