Okay, so the other day I had this idea to make something called “cosy rose.” I wasn’t totally sure what it was, but the name just sounded so inviting, you know? I figured it had to be something warm, comforting, and maybe a little bit floral.
I started by thinking about colors. Obviously, “rose” makes you think of pinks and reds, but I wanted something muted, not too bright. I dug through my yarn stash and found this gorgeous dusty rose colored yarn – super soft, almost like a cloud. Perfect!
Gathering My Supplies
Next, I needed to figure out what I was actually making. Was it a blanket? A scarf? I decided to go with a small, decorative wall hanging. Something simple, but pretty.
So, here’s what I grabbed:
- Dusty rose yarn: My star of the show!
- Some creamy white yarn: For contrast and a little extra cozy.
- A small wooden dowel: To hang the piece.
- My trusty crochet hook: I think it’s a size 5mm, my go-to for most projects.
- Scissors: Of course!
- A tapestry needle: For weaving in those pesky ends.
Getting Started (and Frogging a Bit)
I started by crocheting a rectangle with the dusty rose yarn. My first idea was to make a simple, solid piece. But… it was boring. Like, really boring. So, I frogged it (that’s what crocheters call ripping out your work – ribbit, ribbit!).
I decided to add some texture. I switched to the creamy white yarn and did a row of bobble stitches. Much better! Then, I went back to the rose yarn and did a few more rows of plain double crochet. I kept alternating like that – a few rows of plain, a row of bobbles – until the rectangle was the size I wanted.
Adding the Final Touches
Once the main part was done, I attached it to the wooden dowel. I just single crocheted along the top edge, making sure to loop around the dowel as I went. Easy peasy.
Then, for a little extra flair, I made some tassels with both the rose and white yarn and attached them to the bottom edge. I trimmed them so they were all even (well, mostly even… I’m not perfect!).
The Finished “Cosy Rose”
And… that was it! My “cosy rose” wall hanging was complete. It’s not super fancy, but it’s definitely cozy and adds a nice touch to my little reading nook. It was a fun little project, and it taught me that sometimes, the best creations come from just playing around with an idea and not being afraid to start over (or frog it!). I’m pretty happy with how it turned out, it is very soft!
