Following Rosey at Augusta This Year
So, the Masters rolled around again this year, right? Always a big deal. This time, I decided I’d really zone in on one guy: Justin Rose. Dunno why, exactly. Maybe remembered him nearly winning it before, or perhaps I just like his smooth swing. Felt like he might do something, you know?

I cleared my schedule a bit, especially for the first couple of days. Got the snacks ready, plopped down on the couch. Wanted to track his shots, see how he managed the course. Augusta is just brutal if you’re slightly off.
Watching the Rounds
Man, he came out firing, didn’t he? That first round was something else. Leading the pack. I was thinking, “Okay, here we go, maybe this is his year!” It’s easy to get caught up in it. You see those shots on TV, and they make it look effortless, but you know it’s anything but.
Then, well, golf happened. Augusta bites back. Saw him grind through the next few days. Some great shots, definitely. But also some moments where you could almost feel the pressure through the screen. A missed putt here, a drive finding the trees there. It’s tough watching someone battle like that when they started so strong.
- Tried to see how he handled the tricky greens.
- Watched his pre-shot routine.
- Noticed how he dealt with the windy conditions on one of the days.
It’s funny, you watch these pros, and sometimes you try to pick up little things for your own game. Not that I’m anywhere near that level, obviously. I went to the driving range over the weekend, thinking about that tempo he has. Let’s just say it didn’t magically transform my swing overnight. Still hitting it all over the place sometimes. It really makes you appreciate how dialed-in those guys are, especially under that kind of spotlight.
What I Reckon Now
He didn’t end up winning, finished pretty respectably though, top 10 I think. Following him so closely was interesting. It wasn’t just about the birdies and bogeys. It was seeing the consistency required, the mental game. One day you’re flying, the next you have to dig deep just to stay in it. Reminds me a bit of stuff outside golf, really. Like at work, you can have a great week, everything clicking, then Monday comes and you’re facing a whole new set of problems you gotta grind through.
So yeah, watching Rosey was my little project for the Masters this year. Didn’t see him get the green jacket, but it was a good reminder of the effort that goes into performing at that level, the ups and downs. Made watching the tournament a bit different than just casually flipping it on. Gives you a bit more perspective, I suppose.
