Turns out the guy grew up in Chicago, played for Hales Franciscan High School for a few years, then transferred to Seton Academy. By the time he was a senior, people were starting to pay attention.
College Days
Then I moved on to his college career. This is where things started getting interesting. He went to Ohio University, and let me tell you, this guy was a beast from day one. I mean, his freshman year stats were crazy – averaging 13.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 5.9 assists, and 2.5 steals per game. He was killing it in the MAC, ranking high in scoring, rebounding, and steals. He was all over the leaderboards, and he was just a freshman! I was like, “Okay, this guy’s got some serious talent.”
Going Pro
After college, like most players with his numbers, he went for the 2013 NBA draft. But, surprise, surprise, he wasn’t drafted! Can you believe it? I was shocked. But this is where Cooper’s story gets even more interesting. Instead of giving up, he took his talents overseas. Signed with a Greek team, PAOK, and started his pro career there in 2013. That’s some real determination right there.
National Team Drama
And the story doesn’t end there, folks. I found out he applied for Bosnian citizenship in 2014 and was supposed to play for their national team. He was even named a member, set to play in the EuroBasket 2015 qualification tournament. But then, boom! He had to leave Bosnia for a family thing. What that thing is, I have no clue. It’s a mystery, a real cliffhanger in the DJ Cooper saga.
