Alright, here’s the lowdown on my Dodson Motorsports clutch upgrade. Buckle up, it’s a bumpy ride!
So, it all started with wanting more grip. My stock clutch was slipping like crazy, especially after I started pushing the car harder. I did some digging, watched a bunch of videos, and landed on Dodson Motorsports. Seemed like the real deal.
First, I ordered the damn thing. Waited forever for it to ship. Seriously, it felt like months. Finally got the package, and it was heavy. Like, really heavy. That’s gotta be a good sign, right?
Then came the fun part – tearing the car apart. I’m no mechanic, but I’m stubborn. I followed the service manual to the letter. Took a million pictures before disconnecting anything. Labeling wires is your best friend, trust me.
- Disconnected the battery (safety first!).
- Drained the transmission fluid – stinky stuff!
- Removed the driveshaft.
- Unbolted a bunch of stuff I don’t even remember the names of.
- Finally, got the transmission out. It was a beast!
Next, I wrestled with the old clutch. It was TOAST. Glad I was replacing it. Getting the new Dodson clutch in wasn’t too bad, but torque specs are key here. Don’t wanna over-tighten anything and break something.
Now, the really fun part – putting the transmission back in. This was a nightmare. It’s heavy, awkward, and lining everything up is a pain. Took me a good few hours, a lot of sweat, and probably some cursing, but I finally got it bolted back up.
After that, it was just reverse of disassembly. Reconnected everything, filled the transmission with fresh fluid, and crossed my fingers.
The Moment of Truth
Turned the key… it started! No weird noises. Let it idle for a bit, then gingerly put it in gear. Success! Drove it around the block – felt different. More solid, more responsive. I had to take it easy for the break-in period, but even then, I could tell this clutch was a game changer.
So, yeah, that’s the story of my Dodson Motorsports clutch install. Was it easy? Hell no. Would I do it again? Probably not, but I’m damn glad I did it this time. The car feels amazing now. Definitely worth the blood, sweat, and tears.
