Alright, so listen up, y’all gonna hear me talkin’ about this Eli Manning fella and some fancy award, the Walter Payton somethin’-somethin’ award, I reckon. Don’t rightly know all them big words, but I’ll tell ya what I know, simple and plain.
Now, this Walter Payton fella, sounds like he was a good man, real good. They got this award named after him, see? And they give it to some football player every year, the one they say is the best, not just at throwin’ the ball, but at bein’ a good person too. Like, helpin’ folks out and doin’ good in the community. That’s what I heard tell, anyways.
Eli Manning, yeah, that’s the name. He won this here award one time. They say he was a quarterback, you know, the fella who throws the ball. Played for the New York Giants. Won ‘em a couple of Super Bowls too, so he musta been pretty good at that throwin’ thing.
- He’s from Louisiana, that’s what they said.
- And his daddy and brother, they played football too. A whole family of football throwers, can ya believe it?
But this award, it ain’t just about football. It’s about more than that. It’s about bein’ a good egg, you know? Like, helpin’ out yer neighbors, treatin’ folks right, doin’ what’s right. That’s the kinda fella Eli Manning seems to be, from what I gather.
They got all these judges, big shots I guess, who decide who wins. Even that fella, Roger Goodell, the head honcho of the whole football league, he’s one of ’em. And Walter Payton’s missus, Connie, she helps too. They look at all the players and see who’s doin’ the most good.
This year, 2024, they got 32 players nominated. That’s a whole lotta fellas! Only one of ‘em gonna win, though. And they get a nice chunk of change too, $250,000 they say. That’s a lot of money, enough to buy a whole lotta chickens, I tell ya!
The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, that’s a mouthful, ain’t it? But it means somethin’ special. It means you’re not just a good football player, but a good person too. And that’s somethin’ to be proud of, I reckon.
Eli Manning, he said it himself, that helpin’ folks is one of the best things about bein’ a football player. He said it was a real meanin’ful honor to win that award, specially knowin’ what Walter Payton stood for. Sounds like he was a humble fella, that Eli.
They even got another award named after the Mannings, the Manning Award. For college quarterbacks, see? They look at how they play in the bowl games, them big important games at the end of the season. The Mannings, they sure left their mark on football, that’s for sure.
So, that’s the gist of it. Eli Manning, Walter Payton Award, good football player, good person. That’s what I understand, anyway. It’s nice to see folks gettin’ recognized for doin’ good, not just for throwin’ a ball around.
And this whole thing, it gets announced durin’ somethin’ called NFL Honors. Sounds like a fancy shindig where they give out all sorts of awards. They must dress up all nice and proper for that. Me, I’m happy with my overalls and boots, but to each their own, I say.
So there you have it, my take on this here Eli Manning and that Walter Payton Award. Hope you understood it alright, even if I ain’t no fancy talker.
