Okay, so I’ve been seeing these “two-time U.S. Open winner” clues pop up in crosswords lately, and it was driving me nuts! I’m not a huge golf fan, but I do enjoy a good crossword puzzle, and this kept stumping me. So, I decided to finally figure this out once and for all.

First, I grabbed my phone and opened up my usual crossword app. Yep, there it was again: “Two-time U.S. Open winner.” Ugh.
I figured the best way to tackle this was to just start listing out some possible names. So I started googling “U.S. Open winners”.
My Makeshift List
- I scrolled through a bunch of articles, and got list after list.
- I started jotting down names of anyone who’d won it twice.
- My list grew.
Then, I went back to my crossword. I started trying to fit some of the names I’d found into the puzzle. Nope, too long. Nope, wrong letters. This was harder than I thought!
I realized I needed to be more systematic. I decided to create an organized list. I divided them according to how many letters they have.
After doing all of that. I finally cracked it!It worked! I can do it! I can do it now every time I see a similar crossword.
