Well, let me tell ya about this Fukuoka Hawks team, ya know, the baseball fellas. They play over there in Japan, I think. My grandson, he’s always yappin’ about ’em, so I figured I’d learn a little somethin’ myself.
Fukuoka Hawks, that’s the name, remember it! They seem like a pretty good bunch, always winnin’ and such. Heard they just won somethin’ called a “pennant.” Sounds fancy, must be important. Beat some team called the Buffaloes, which is a funny name for a baseball team if you ask me. Score was somethin’ like 9 to 4. That’s a lot of points, even I know that!
They got these fellas, hitters they call ’em, and they smack that ball real hard. Heard they hit three home runs in one game! Whack! Gone! Just like that. And they play good defense too, catchin’ the ball and all that. My grandson says they’re real good at stoppin’ the other team from scorin’. Makes sense, I guess. You gotta score more than the other guys to win, right?
- They win games. Lots of ’em.
- They hit the ball real far.
- They catch the ball good too.
They play in somethin’ called the Pacific League. Sounds like a big deal, lots of teams and all. They gotta play a whole bunch of games, seems like every day sometimes. My grandson, he checks the scores all the time. He gets real worked up if they lose, but mostly they win, so that’s good.
I saw a picture once, they got these uniforms, all fancy lookin’. Hats and everything. They look like a real team, ya know? Professional and all that. And the fans, oh boy, they go crazy for these Hawks. Cheerin’ and yellin’, just like folks at the county fair, but louder. Guess that’s what happens when your team is winnin’ all the time.
They got this player, Shuto, I think his name is. My grandson talks about him a lot. Said he got a hit that won a game or somethin’. RBI, he called it. Don’t know what that means, but it sounds important. Guess he’s one of the good ones. They got a whole bunch of players though, can’t remember all their names. Too many for this old brain.
They play these games, they call ’em “fixtures.” Just means games, I think. And they got “results,” which is just who won and who lost. Seems like they win most of the time. And they got “scores,” which is how many points each team got. My grandson, he knows all the scores, all the stats, all that fancy stuff. Me, I just like to hear if they won or not.
They also got somethin’ called the “Climax Series.” Sounds excitin’! Like the championship or somethin’. My grandson, he gets real nervous durin’ them games. Says it’s real important to win. They play another team, the Fighters I think they’re called. Another funny name. But the Hawks, they usually beat ’em. They’re tough, these Hawks.
So, that’s about all I know about the Fukuoka Hawks. They’re a baseball team, they win a lot, they hit the ball hard, and they got some fella named Shuto. And my grandson, he loves ’em. That’s enough for me. Now, where’s that remote? I wanna watch my stories.
They even got news about ’em, all the time. My grandson, he reads it all. Says they got a good team this year, might win it all. Whatever “it all” is. Must be somethin’ big. He gets all excited, talkin’ about standin’s and statistics. I just nod and smile. As long as they’re winnin’, I’m happy.
Anyways, if you like baseball, I guess these Fukuoka Hawks are a team to watch. They seem pretty good, and they sure do win a lot. That’s all that matters, right? Winnin’.
