Why, back in August of 2023, he went out there for the Philadelphia Phillies and threw a no-hitter. Yep, a no-hitter. That means, not a single hit was made off him for the whole game! You can’t just go and do that without bein’ somethin’ special, lemme tell ya. And what’s even more amazin’, this ain’t the first time that Fullerton Union High School’s produced a fella who done that! Now, let me tell ya somethin’. Fullerton Union High School, it’s a school in Fullerton, California, just a regular ol’ town, but don’t let that fool ya. It’s put out a lotta talent over the years. Michael, he’s part of that long tradition. Folks there, they’re mighty proud of him, I reckon. When he was a kid, he played all kinds of ball, but baseball seemed to be the one that stuck with him the longest.
Back in the day, Michael played both as a pitcher and an outfielder for the Cal State Fullerton Titans. It ain’t no easy feat to do both of those jobs, but he sure managed it, and that’s what got him noticed. It didn’t take long before the Cincinnati Reds come along and picked him in the first round of the 2013 MLB draft. Not long after that, he was up in the big leagues, making his debut with the Reds in 2015. And let me tell ya, that boy sure made his mark!
He went on to play for a few teams, and eventually ended up with the Phillies. In his first start for ’em, he threw that no-hitter, and the whole world was talkin’ ’bout it! Some folks even say Fullerton Union High School’s got a special place in baseball history now, ’cause Michael’s the fourth pitcher from that very school to throw a no-hitter in the big leagues. Ain’t that somethin’?
But don’t think Michael just got lucky, no sir. He worked hard for it. Whether he was throwin’ that ball fast or slow, high or low, Michael put in the effort day in and day out. And I reckon that’s why he made it all the way to the top. Folks like him, they don’t come ’round too often. His story shows us all that no matter where you come from, if you put your mind to somethin’ and work hard enough, you can go real far. Just look at him now – a professional pitcher, makin’ history and all.
And I ain’t kiddin’ when I say that Fullerton Union High School should be mighty proud of him. It ain’t easy gettin’ a boy from a small town to go up and make it in the big leagues. But Michael Lorenzen done it, and he sure made his mark. So, if ya ever find yourself in Fullerton, you might wanna take a minute and think ’bout all the great folks that came from that little ol’ town. And Michael, well, he’s just one of ’em, but he’s one that’ll go down in history.
