Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make these custom Phoenix Suns-colored shoes for a while now. I’m a huge Suns fan, and I thought it would be cool to have a unique pair of kicks that really showed off my team spirit. So, here’s how I went about it.
First, I picked out the shoes. I wanted something simple that I could easily customize, so I went with some plain white canvas sneakers. Nothing fancy, just a basic, clean base to work with.
Getting the Right Colors
Next, I had to find the right paint. I’m no professional artist, so I wanted something easy to use. I ended up getting some fabric paint in purple, orange, and black, the core Suns colors. I made sure to get a few different shades of purple and orange to get that gradient sunset look I was aiming for.

I tested the paints on a piece of scrap fabric first. That helped me get a feel for how they would look and how to blend them together. I recommend doing a practice before going crazy on the shoe.
Paint the shoes
Then came the fun part – actually painting the shoes! I started with the purple at the bottom, gradually blending it into the orange towards the middle. That wasn’t too bad. I used a few thin layers to build up the color and make it look smooth. It’s not perfect, but it works.
I used some black paint to add some details, like outlining certain areas and adding the Suns logo on the sides.I got some stencils, but the painting part was all me. The black really made the other colors pop.
After the paint was completely dry, I sprayed the shoes with a sealant. This helps protect the paint from scuffs and fading, keeping them looking fresh. I let them dry for a full day before I even thought about wearing them.
And that’s it! My very own, homemade Phoenix Suns shoes. They’re not perfect, but I’m super proud of how they turned out. They’re definitely one-of-a-kind, and I can’t wait to wear them to the next game!
