Alright, so yesterday I decided to tackle the “observes yom kippur crossword” thing. Never really done a proper crossword puzzle before, figured why not?

First thing I did was Google “Yom Kippur crossword” just to see what’s out there. Found a few online versions and some printable ones. I picked a printable one – felt more legit, you know? Plus, my eyes are tired of screens.
Grabbed a pen (crucial!), printed the darn thing, and sat down at the kitchen table. Started with the easy ones – the really short words. “Sin” came up pretty quick. Then “Atonement.” Felt like I was on a roll.
Then BAM! Hit a wall. Some of these clues were tough! Like, “Day of…” and it was only four letters. Okay, “Rest”? Nope. “Fast”? Bingo! That unlocked a couple more. This is how it’s done, people!
Spent a good hour just staring at the thing, scribbling, erasing (thank goodness for pencils!), and muttering to myself. I even had to ask my wife for help on a couple. Turns out she knows more about Jewish holidays than I thought. She knew “Shofar” instantly. Show off.
Used the internet for a few toughies. I hate to admit it, but sometimes you just gotta. I tried to only look up specific clues when I was totally stumped, not just cheat the whole thing. Kept it (mostly) honest.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, I filled in the last blank. Checked it over, made sure everything made sense (or at least looked like it could make sense), and… done! Victory!
Lessons Learned:
- Crosswords are harder than they look.
- Having a spouse who knows stuff is helpful.
- Google is your friend (but don’t abuse it).
Honestly, it was kinda fun. Might try another one sometime. Maybe not about Yom Kippur next time though. Something a little less… serious.
