Okay, so I’ve been getting into MLB The Show 24, which is like the go-to baseball game right now. It’s pretty sick, but there’s this one thing that I could just not get the hang of — sliding. I watched a bunch of videos, read some guides, and still, my players were just face-planting. So I decided, forget it, I’m gonna figure this out myself.
First, I started by just messing around in practice mode. I picked my favorite team and just started running bases like crazy. Now, the trick, as I found out, was all in the timing and how you use the controller.
-
Getting Ready to Slide
-
You gotta sprint towards the base, which is usually done by holding down the right trigger. No biggie there, pretty standard stuff.
-
Initiating the Slide
-
Here’s where it got tricky. You need to use the right stick, but not just any way. You have to flick it in the direction you want to slide.
-
Headfirst or Feetfirst?
-
If you want to go headfirst, you flick that stick upwards. For feetfirst, you flick it downwards. I spent a good hour just practicing flicking the stick at different angles.
-
Timing is Everything
-
The real game-changer is when you start the slide. Too early, and you’ll just stop short. Too late, and you’ll get tagged out for sure. I found that starting the slide just as you’re about to reach the base works best.

Different Slide Types
-
I also noticed that you can do different types of slides. Like, if you push the stick diagonally, you can hook slide to avoid tags. Pretty cool when you pull it off.
After a few hours of trial and error, I finally started getting it down. My players were sliding like pros, avoiding tags, and making those clutch plays. It felt awesome to finally crack the code, you know? Now, I’m no expert, but I’m definitely not face-planting anymore. And hey, if I can figure it out, anyone can. Just takes a bit of practice and a lot of patience.
