Alright, so I finally got around to watching that Usyk vs Dubois fight everyone was talking about. Heard the buzz building up all week, you know how it is. Usyk, the main man, against this young powerhouse Dubois. Sounded like a decent scrap on paper.

So, Saturday night rolls around. I made sure the chores were done, got myself settled on the sofa. Fired up the TV, navigated through the menus to find the right channel or stream, always a bit of a faff these days. Grabbed some snacks, nothing fancy, just needed something to chew on during the rounds. Dimmed the lights a bit, trying to get that proper fight night feel in my living room.
Watching the Actual Scrap
The ring walks took ages, as usual. Lots of flashing lights and loud music. Finally, they got down to business. From the off, you could see Usyk’s game plan. Move, jab, stay out of trouble. His footwork is just unreal, honestly. Dubois looked strong, trying to land those big bombs he’s known for. He was definitely putting the pressure on, trying to cut off the ring.
Then came that moment in the fifth round. Dubois landed a shot, Usyk went down clutching himself. Looked like a body shot, but the ref immediately called it low. Big debate right there. From my angle on the sofa, it looked borderline, maybe low-ish on the beltline? Usyk got a long time to recover, which obviously riled up the Dubois fans. Was it legit low? Was Usyk playing it up? Hard to tell for sure without being the ref in there, but it definitely changed the mood of the fight for a bit.
After the break, Usyk seemed to shake it off. Maybe it fired him up? He started finding his rhythm again, landing cleaner shots. That jab just kept snapping Dubois’ head back. You could see Dubois trying, bless him, throwing hard but mostly hitting air or gloves. Usyk’s defence was just too slick most of the time.
The Finish
Later on, Usyk really started to take control. He scored a knockdown, Dubois got up bravely. But Usyk wasn’t letting him off the hook. He piled on the pressure, landed another flurry, and down went Dubois again in the ninth. This time, the ref didn’t hesitate, just waved it off. Seemed like the right call, Dubois looked pretty spent and was taking punishment.
So, Usyk gets the win, keeps his belts. Showed his class, recovered from that controversial moment and did the job. You gotta respect his skill. Feel a bit for Dubois, he gave it a go, showed heart, but that low blow call will probably sting for a while. Whether it was low or not, it’s gonna be debated forever, isn’t it? That’s boxing for you. Always leaves you with something to argue about down the pub. Overall, glad I watched it, decent bit of action on a Saturday night.
