Okay, so the other day I got this idea stuck in my head: I wanted to make my own “I Love New York” hat. You know, the classic one with the heart? I figured, why not? I love a good DIY project, and this seemed pretty straightforward.

Gathering Supplies
First things first, I needed a plain hat. I rummaged through my closet, but no luck. So, I headed to a local craft store. I found a simple, white baseball cap – perfect! Then, I grabbed some red fabric paint and a black fabric marker. I already had a paintbrush at home, so I was good to go.
The “I” and the Heart
- I started by sketching out the design on a piece of paper. Just to get a feel for the size and spacing.
- Next, I lightly penciled the “I” and the heart onto the hat. I figured it was better to be safe than sorry, and pencil is easy to erase.
- Then came the fun part – painting! I carefully filled in the heart with the red fabric paint. I did two coats, just to make sure it was nice and vibrant. It took forever to fully dry.
Finishing Touches
Once the paint was completely dry, I outlined the heart with the black fabric marker. This really made it pop.
Then I added a New York Underneath the heart.
And that was it! My very own, handmade “I Love New York” hat. I put that I put my blood and sweat on.
It wasn’t perfect, of course. The lines weren’t perfectly straight, and there was a tiny smudge of red paint on the brim, but I loved it anyway. It was unique, and I made it myself. I wore it out the next day, and I have to say, I felt pretty darn proud.
